Braintree Top 40

It was a crazy week on the Braintree Top 40 with most of its members hitting record high play counts. Leading the charge is Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa's much-aniticipated single, "One Kiss," which debuts at #1, relegating "Remind Me to Forget" to #2.  With "One Kiss" hitting the top spot, Dua Lipa has now broken her tie with Kesha and Taylor Swift for Most #1s.  She previously hit #1 with "New Rules" and "IDGAF," all within a six month period.

Now when I say crazy, I mean this has been the most competitive week EVER on the chart.  While in a normal week, 3 or 4 plays will get a song to chart, this week, even 5 plays wouldn't guarantee you a spot, with the #1 song getting a total of 44 plays!  Is this week just a fluke or are people starting to ramp up the listening to coincide with the rising temps?

We also see major movements elsewhere in the top ten as three new debuts line up from #4 to 6.  Kelly Clarkson gets her 3rd top ten with "Heat," thanks to Celina's kitchen dancefest.  Nicki Minaj arrives at #5 after less than 24 hours with her new single, "Barbie Tingz," expected to challenge for the top spot next week.  Coming in at #6 is the Breagh-fueled "No Problems" by Chance the Rapper featuring 2 Chainz & Lil Wayne.  Country also had a good week as Emily boosts Kacey Musgraves's "High Horse" to a new peak at #7 while "Meant to Be" just makes it at #10.  While Daina believes 5SOS is never gonna happen, it looks like it's the opposite in Braintree as it reaches new heights at #9.

There's a line of songs just waiting to get into the top ten as well.  Thanks to Emily, we have "On the Low" by Tove Styrke and "A Good Night" by John Legened & Bloodpop at #11 and 12, respectively.  This could be both Tove Styke and Bloodpop's 3rd top ten.  Will next week be the week?  Cardi B released her new album, Invasion of Privacy, this week and that was enough to propel her to a #13 debut.  Then, we have another Kelly Clarkson song, thanks to Celina at #14.

As you've probably realized, Celina listened to literally only Kelly Clarkson and Breagh only listened to Chance the Rapper.  Fun fact: Breagh hates Kelly Clarkson which I'm assuming is because she's Canadian and jealous that her Canadian Idols are shit.  Aside from that. Emm!e kept previous #1 "The Middle" from sliding too far down at #15.  Emily kept her status of Braintree MVP in tact while also spinning the hell out of a small selection of New Music Friday.  Daina continued her ban on music this week as she only tallied 5 plays for the seven days.  Let us all pray for her.

Next week, we see a lot of new releases that will surely shake the chart up even further.  We've got ZAYN, Nicki Minaj, & Florence + the Machine already releasing singles with a full week to see how high they can go.  Then, we have Sigrid, Bebe Rexha, King Princess, and Jannelle Monae all with new music coming.  The major event though is Ariana Grande's new single, which has been announced for April 27th, so expect that to be making a big debut in two weeks' time.  Can "One Kiss" continue its dominance or will "Barbie Tingz" be able to secure Nicki Minaj her first #1?
