It's a wild week on the Braintree Top 40 as Daina takes over while Josh is in Vegas! Not only does "Shallow" drop from the top spot to #6, the new #1 song is "High Hopes" by Panic! at the Disco, the first re-entry to ever top the chart. "High Hopes" previously peaked at #25 for one week in May, thanks to Josh. Five months later, slowpoke Daina has launched it all the way to the top along with "Moves" by Olly Murs featuring Snoop Dogg. The 1975 get their best peak yet with "It's Not Living (If It's Not With You)" at #3 while two more Daina bombs fill out the top 5. The first is "Simple" by Florida Georgia Line, gibing them their 3rd top ten hit, which is absurd for a country act in Braintree. This is followed by MAGIC GIANT's "Let It Burn," which reaches a new peak of #5 after peaking at #8 last month.
Elsewhere in the top ten, we have two Jess Glynne songs reach new heights as "123" goes up to #8 and "Thursday" gives Glynne her 4th top ten at #10. Right outside the top ten is "5 Dollars" by Christine and the Queens at #13, which recently received critical acclaim from Celina, so Chris could potentially get her 2nd top ten in the coming weeks! We also continue with the A Star Is Born domination with 11 entries on this week's chart as well as 2 on the Bubbling Under. This is thanks to Celina, Josh, and Emily, all of whom have seen the cinematic masterpiece now.
I'm not going to run through everyone's listening habits this week since I essentially either already discussed it or they didn't listen to anything. The only note I will say is watch out for Catie next week as she returns from Vegas with a renewed love for the Backstreet Boys. Could "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" re-enter or will an oldie but a goodie make the cut? It's all up to whether Catie listens to music or not.
Next week, we have new music from kiiara, joan, Olly Murs, and Elley Duhe as well as the new album from Robyn. The biggest release however, is the new single from Ellie Goulding, Diplo, and Swae Lee called "Close to Me," which has the potential to really make an impact on the charts. Had the Braintree Top 40 been around during the Delirium era, I'm sure Ellie Goulding would have multiple #1s. Will she get her first official one next week? It all depends on what Daina does!
Here is this week's Bubbling Under:
1. Dua Lipa & BLACKPINK - Kiss and Make Up
2. Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper - I Don't Know What Love Is
3. Lady Gaga - Diggin' My Grave
4. Normani & Calvin Harris - Slow Down
5. Anderson .Paak - Tints (feat. Kendrick Lamar)
