Chart

James' Top 70 - September 29, 2016

Big movements this week come from The Score, Talay Riley, and CRUISR, while some big drops sadly come from EDEN, Ariana Grande, and Pitbull.

Notes:

  • Bad Suns are able to hold down the #1 spot for one more week, as "Disappear Here" spends its second week atop the chart. A lack of competition is what it's going to thrive on, as it's basically a week-by-week battle. It'll look at three weeks next week, but "Mayday" and "You & Me" both have the potential to take it over next week.
  • "HEAR ME NOW" spins around and goes back into the Top 10 this week, going 13-8 to re-set its peak. Despite "MAD AT YOU" having the higher peak at #3, "HEAR ME NOW" has accrued more points than the aforementioned due to it lasting longer on the chart. This might be its peak, but it should stick around this region for awhile. "FREAK YOUR MIND" (33-33) is also not done despite the drop last week and it stalling this week; it could have rose this week, but got passed up by some songs. It may not be another Top 10 hit for 3OH!3, but it should last long. This has been a surprise era from 3OH!3 that should continue well into next year as I pick their singles.
  • The Score have themselves a superb week, as "Unstoppable" flies 34-20 for a new peak. This is looking to be a huge hit, and this has definitely helped its case. It has the potential to even go #1 in the future, but it'll seek the Top 10 pretty soon. They released their Unstoppable EP this week, and "The Heat" debuts this week at #67, while "Money Run Low" and "Where You Are" appear on On the Rise. "The Heat" should be able to stick around as a non-single for a bit.
  • "Better Than Me" sets a new peak exactly a year later (okay, 364 days later) as it rises 42-39 this week. This likely won't be the juggernaut that "Criminals" (27-31) surprisingly has been, but this could turn into a Top 20 hit and have some longevity to it. The funny thing is, I won't be stopping his era after this one either. "I'm Gonna Love You" is likely going to be used as the next single whenever "Criminals" falls off.
  • The top debut this week goes to Thrice, as they make their chart debut with "Black Honey" at #57. I've been really enjoying this one, and this could turn into a decent hit for the band. Songs from the Active Rock chart have been fairly scarce these days, so this is a welcome addition to the chart.
  • ROZES reappears on the chart this week with her new single "Under the Grave" debuting at #63. We last saw ROZES not too long ago with "Hangin' On", which was only able to peak at #47 after a promising start. This will look to best that, as she has improved after each single charting. "Hangin' On" ran into a stall after a month or so because many songs were passing it; "Under the Grave" will try to not fall into that trap. This could turn into a nice hit for her though.
  • TOTEM makes his chart debut this week with "Bubblegum" coming in at #66. He had a free song on iTunes awhile back with "Pride", and I never paid much attention to it. I was actually looking up past American Idol alum Anoop Desai because he disappeared off of the face of the earth after releasing some killer covers on YouTube, as well as a hot EP. I ended up digging this information up that TOTEM is Anoop, though he hasn't publicly stated that. This guy has such an outstanding voice, and this song is hella catchy, so this could be a big hit for Anoop TOTEM.
