Chart

the cm70 - December 9, 2015

Welcome to the new cm70! With the boat loads of new songs that have been flooding On the Rise the past few weeks, I thought it'd be a good idea to expand. Now I said last week I'd do a Top 50 and not until next year, but yeah, that changed. 70 was fairly easy to obtain, so I thought why not? Now, this might not be the permanent chart position number, as I know I'll start running out of time to do it, but for now enjoy it!

Since there's a major extension, I decided that it would be in my best interest to implement a new recurrent rule. Before, a song that fell 5+ positions in 3 consecutive weeks would get the boot, and that still stands. Now another rule is, if a song falls below #50 (so #51 and down) and has 15 weeks under its belt, it will be sent recurrent. This will probably be how "Never Stop" ends its long reign.

Notes:

  • "The Feeling" holds the top spot for a fourth consecutive week, now starting off with 4 weeks at the top spot upon its #1 debut. This is very vulnerable right now, but "Seeing Red" (#2) and "Looking Up" (#3) aren't doing enough to overtake it. At the moment, "Looking Up" might look to be the one to step up and reclaim the throne. Next week should be another battle between the three.
  • After dipping as low as #8, "Criminals" has made a rebound and now reaches the Top 5, moving 6-5 for a new peak. This has been probably the biggest surprise of the year for me, and it doesn't look done. This could hop into the #4 spot next week, but it is a bit of ways from "A Taste of Silver".
  • Tove Lo scores her fifth Top 10 on the chart as "Moments" moves 11-9 for a new peak. This should be able to hold up in the bottom half of the Top 10 for the time being, but time will tell if this has the gas to go Top 5. This sadly flopped on CHR, but that shouldn't hinder its chart run here. On another note, with the expansion, "Talking Body" (32-35) pretty much solidifies that it will go a full year on the chart, unless it dips below #50 per the new recurrency rules.
  • "Junkyard" takes a huge leap into the Top 20, as it goes 26-19 for a new peak. I've been starting to listen to this more and more the past few weeks and this might be able to go Top 10 in the new year. Will it beat "Heavy is the Head"'s #3 peak? Probably not. Will it get close? Perhaps.
  • "Vampire" also lifts into the Top 20 this week, going 25-20 in its second week. This will probably slow down now, but Top 10 is definitely possible for this.
  • "Tipping Point" and "Adventure of a Lifetime" make big gains this week, going 30-25 and 31-26 respectively. Both are looking like huge hits and both look like breakouts waiting to happen.
  • James Bay enters the Top 30 with "Let It Go" going 33-29 for a new peak. Despite this being unfairly done on Alt, this should still start its climb here. With Grammy nominations and a possible performance for this (hopefully), this could peak around February of next year.
  • Agent Fresco score their first Top 30 hit with "Howls" going 34-30. This might start to breakout now as I'm getting more and more into it. It took its time to break the Top 30, but patience is virtue.
  • This might be one of the biggest disappointments on the chart, as "Hello" by: Adele drops even further down, 27-31, the chart, looking like it has peaked at a low #25. Adele was the queen of the chart before Tove Lo was a thing, but Adele looks like she won't be able to reclaim her throne with this one. Hopefully future singles do better than this, but considering I haven't even bought the album, who knows.
  • "Don't" has a breakout week, going 39-33 for a new peak. I'm starting to really like this, and it looks like this could be a huge hit for him. Top 30 is in its sights next week.
  • "Chains" takes a big leap into the Top 40, going 44-36 for a new peak. This probably would have debuted around there if it were the Top 40 still. This has been one of my favorites as of late and this could be a nice hit for them. Top 10 is totally possible and it has the opportunity to climb rapidly.
  • Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness enters the Top 40 with "High Dive" going 49-38 for a new peak. This has also been a favorite as of late and will also look to climb a lot. This could be a big one.
  • I'm not going to comment too much on the new extension songs, but I will highlight a few.
  • We see "Beautiful Drug" again, and it's starting to make its comeback (again). It takes a nice 47-43 jump this week, looking to get back into the Top 40 next week. I just discovered the country mix of the song and I've been really enjoying it. It's combining with the album version, which gives it a big boost considering there's now two versions of the song in my playlist (similar to Until the Ribbon Breaks' "Pressure").
  • Speaking of Until the Ribbon Breaks, we see "Goldfish" move 60-52 for a new peak. This has been on On the Rise for quite awhile and now with the extension it has been given its time to shine. I don't see this performing nearly as well as their recent singles (all going Top 10), but this has the potential to go Top 10 with time. For now, Top 30 looks to be its ceiling.
  • "The Driver" moves 65-58 this week for a new peak. This has been making big strides the past week or so, and this is one to look out for. This could end up being a big hit, but it does have a bit of ways to go.
  • Despite being over a year old now, "Can't Break Me Down" blasts 70-59 this week for a new peak. Like some of the other songs on the list ("In Chains", "High Dive", "Way Down We Go"), this was brought out by a 2015 Rock playlist on Spotify that I have been listening to. This might do pretty well.
