Meredith Brooks started her career as a member of the group The Graces. The girls scored a small hit on the Billboard 100 with Lay Down Your Arms but their other singles flopped horrendously. Meredith Brooks left the group to start a solo career, releasing Bitch as her first single. After an eleven week climb, the American singer finally reaches Number 1 on this list. Meredith Brooks is the third American female singer to peak above the list, only preceded by Mariah Carey and Faith Evans. She dethrones Men In Black by actor-turned-singer Will Smith, which spent four weeks above the list. To top it all off, Bitch receives a Gold Certification as the song has scored over 40,000 points.
Texas score their second Top 10-entry with Black Eyed Boy. The song is the third single from Scottish rock band’s album “White on Blonde”. The album previously spawned the massively successful Say What You Want, which went on to peak at Number 2, received a Platinum Certification and amassed over 80,000 points. The song is one of the best-scoring songs of this year so far. The group their latest entry was Halo which peaked at Number 20 a few weeks ago. The group return with Black Eyed Boy and reach a new peak at Number 9 this week.
DARIO G score the highest debut of the week. DARIO G is a DJ-trio consisting of Paul Spencer, Scott Rosser and Stephen Spencer. The group debuted with Sunchyme in the United Kingdom, aided by its mesmerizing music video. The single peaked at Number 2 and is one of the country’s biggest dance songs of the year. The hit is built around a sample of Life in a Northern Town, a number 15 hit on the UK Official Charts for The Dream Academy in 1985. On this list, DARIO G make their debut at Number 2o this week.
T-Spoon receive a Gold Certification for their hit Sex on the Beach. The Dutch Eurodance-act peaked at Number 2 and scored one of this year’s biggest hits with their raunchy single. Internationally, the song performed really successful to, becoming one of the Netherlands’ first crossover-acts since 2 Unlimited. The single has amassed over 40,000 points to date.
