Puff Daddy, Faith Evans and 112 climb to Number 1 with I’ll Be Missing You. The song is tribute to the late Christopher George Latore Wallace, also known as The Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie. The American rapper was shot on March 9, 1996 at the age of 24. The Notorious B.I.G. was seen as one of the greatest rappers of all time. The hit features the late rapper's former mentor Puff Daddy and wife Faith Evans. I’ll Be Missing You contains samples of the Police's Every Breath You Take. The sentimental tribute tops the charts this week.
Sash! and Rodriguez score their first Top 10-entry with Ecuador. Sash! is a German Eurodance-act fronted by DJ Sascha Lappessen. Many German acts have graced the list before, including chart-topping successes such as Captain Jack, La Bouche and Mr. President. Their newest single is becoming an international success and the breakthrough for the group. The song peaked at Number 1 in Flemish Belgium, Romania and Scotland, while reaching the Top 10 in the United Kingdom and many other European countries. On this list, Ecuador peaks at Number 6.
*NSYNC score their third Top 10-entry with Here We Go. The American boy group is becoming an international success, much to the likes of Take That and the Backstreet Boys. The boys’ first Top 10-entry dates back to March this year with I Want You Back. The single peaked at Number 5 and was certified Gold. Real success came with the group’s second single Tearin’ Up My Heart, which peaked at Number 2 and is now eligible for a Platinum Certification. The boys return with Here We Go. The newest single peaks at Number 8.
Guus Meeuwis & Vagant score their fifth Top 10-entry with Ik Tel Tot 3. The single was last week’s highest debut. Guus Meeuwis & Vagant already left an impressive legacy behind, although they have only released one proper studio album yet. That debut album spawned four highly successful Top 10-hits, including the Number 1s Het Is Een Nacht… (Levensecht) and Per Spoor (Kedeng Kedeng). Their newest single proves that their second album will be a success as well. The Dutch group peaks at Number 10 this week.
Although Take That has broken up some time ago, the boys still have a lasting impression on the list. Group members Robbie Williams and Gary Barlow both have ventured out on their solo careers and frequently appear on the list, often rivalling with each other. This week, Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams fight for this week’s highest debut of the week, with the latter coming out on top. Robbie Williams enters at Number 17 with Lazy Days. The British singer already scored two Top 10s with Freedom and Old Before I Die, of which the first debuted at Number 1 and was certified Platinum. Gary Barlow enters at Number 22 with So Help Me Girl. On his own, Gary Barlow scored two Top 10s with the Gold-certified Forever Love and Love Won’t Wait.
