Weekly Chart (12/16/18)

Ava Max dethrones 5-week #1, “Sue Me” on “Sweet but Psycho”’s third week.

Sabrina Carpenter’s reign of ruling the Top 50 has been put to an end, by the one and only Ava Max with “Sweet but Psycho”. The song replaces “Sue Me” and makes another huge leap across the chart, jumping from #18 to the top spot this week, leaping seventeen spots. It is the only song to dethrone Sabrina Carpenter’s future hit single. However, Carpenter continues to keep her Singular Act I tracks steady inside the Top 10, as she keeps “Sue Me”, “Almost Love”, “Bad Time”, and “Mona Lisa” within the top spots.

Despite Max’s definitive success with “Sweet but Psycho”, Ariana Grande and Avril Lavigne are looking to dethrone the upcoming artist at the top spot, with their new singles. Ariana Grande has released “imagine” as the second song off her upcoming album thank u, next and it debuts #6 this week, a third top ten hit. She also continues to climb the chart with “thank u, next” as it takes Grande’s previous single “breathin”’s place at #5 this week! Ariana currently has five songs charting in the Top 50, such as “imagine”, “thank u, next”, “breathin” (#10), “God is a woman” (#24), climbing one spot from last week, and “no tears left to cry”, which has re-entered the chart at #50. “Tell Me It’s Over”, the second single from Lavigne’s forthcoming SIXTH album Head Above Water debuts at #4 this week, while her previous single of the same title has jumped two spots to it’s previous live-chart peak at #14!

“1999” is on the verge of re-entering the top 10 on the live Top 50 chart, and only misses it by two spot as it sits at #12. It would be Troye’s second Top 10 entry, and Charli’s first! Troye’s other track that reached the Top 10 a few weeks back was “Plum”, which currently sits at #17. Sivan has two other tracks in the top 50, “Lucky Strike” (#29) and “My My My!”, the lead single to his sophomore album Bloom. The January single unexpectedly climbs three spots from last weeks re-entry to #43.

After three weeks of being held outside the Top 20, ZAYN and Nicki Minaj’s collaboration “No Candle No Light” is sitting at #20, ZAYN’s and Nicki’s first Top 20 entry, respectively. ZAYN has two other songs in the Top 50, “Good Years” which has climbed five spots from last week’s placement to #33, ZAYN’s second highest charting song, and “There You Are” has debuted on the chart this week at #35, ZAYN’s FOURTH Top 50 entry of the year, while “Rainberry” unfortunately falls off the chart. Nicki Minaj also has one other song on the chart, her collaboration with Little Mix “Woman Like Me”, which sits at #36, once again this week.

Clean Bandit, Marina and Luis Fonsi all earn their first Top 50 entry with their major collaboration “Baby”, and it debuts at #39. Speaking of first entries, Carlie Hanson earns one of those with her new single “Numb” at #49.
