James' Top 40 - May 6, 2015

4 debuts - all coming from Zac Brown Band!

Notes:

  • "A Taste of Silver" will takes its 9th week at #1, but only having a play increase of +4. It still has a firm hold on the lead, but there are some challengers coming for it. Next week could be close, but it has a fair shot at stretching to double digit weeks on top. Two weeks from now though could be a different story.
  • Cold War Kids match their highest peak as "First" climbs 4-2, tying "All This Could Be Yours"' peak. The song originally didn't look like a #1, or really a Top 5 hit, but it has been able to make good gains each week and has gotten itself to where it's at now. This has a shot at #1 next week, but it has the third lowest chance between the Top 5, despite residing at the #2 spot.
  • "Shut Up and Dance" hops back into the Top 3, moving 5-3, getting a full revival. #1 seems to be a little hard for it, but it has been making gains and if a few songs were to slip up in the coming weeks, it could score another week.
  • Zac Brown Band has a huge week this week, easily becoming the best country act in chart history lol. ZBB take 5 positions on the chart this week, 4 off of debuts. "Heavy Is the Head" takes a big leap again, as it hops 9-4 for a new peak. This has a fair shot at #1 next week, but it's going to need to keep its momentum up. "Beautiful Drug" comes in at #31, "Loving You Easy" comes in at #32, "Junkyard" comes in at #36, and "Homegrown" comes in at #38. "Loving You Easy" and "Homegrown" should be able to stay on the chart for awhile since they're singles, but "Beautiful Drug" and "Junkyard" will be here for only a little while, but they shouldn't become one-weekers. Despite only having 13 plays, "Junkyard" is able to take a debut this week, mostly due in part to its time length, since it is 7 minutes long, it gets a little bit of a boost since it would have around 20 if it were normal length. This is similar to Foo Fighters' "I Am A River" debuting last year.
  • "Dancing on Quicksand" has some bad luck, as it stays at #6 this week with just a +3 play increase. This might tarnish its chances at #1, as "Heavy Is the Head" now has the upperhand. All hope shouldn't be lost though, as this could still see some time atop.
  • Saint Motel slide into the Top 10 with "My Type" rising 13-9. This looks like a future Top 5, but #1 is still possible. This'll look to approach the Top 5 next week.
  • Until the Ribbon Breaks move up on 3 other songs this week. "Perspective" rises 17-14, "Pressure" goes 29-25, and "Motel Blues" goes 34-33, all for new peaks. "Perspective" will look at the Top 10 next week, but might fall a bit short. "Pressure" will look to go Top 20, and it's very possible with some new purgers coming in. "Motel Blues" will look to just stay alive, as it takes a short rise. "One Way Or Another" looks like it'll be done next week, as it slides 33-39.
  • "All Over" leaps 20-15 this week for a new peak. It gets a benefit from some droppers this week, but it did earn its jump. This could be a Top 10 hit if it continues the pace it has been. It might just take some time.
  • "Desire" climbs 21-19 this week for a new peak. The song has been chilling in the lower half of the Top 20 and top half of the Top 30 for awhile, and it looks like it should peak within there. "King" appears on On the Rise yet again, as this is now its 9th consecutive week on the chart. This could soon hold a record, as it still looks to be a ways of the chart, but should be able to stay on On the Rise for the foreseeable future.
  • A few new peaks occur within the Top 30 this week: "Halo" climbs 25-21, "Dead Inside" goes 26-23, "Take Your Time" goes 28-26, and "Cool" rises 31-29. "Halo" will easily enter the Top 20 next week, and "Dead Inside" should be able to follow suit.
  • Seether climbs up with "Nobody Praying For Me" this week, going 37-35 for a new peak. This looks it could just see steady rises its run, but it's really unknown right now where it'll end up peaking. The early prediction was in the mid-teens, but this might fall short of that.
  • "The Wolf" stays alive this week, going 39-37 for a new peak. This had a shot to be gone this week, but it took advantage of the ones being purged and was able to stay. The coming weeks should be a big challenge for it, but it looks like it should stay alive for awhile.
  • In Memoriam: The third memorial service will be in session. "Resonance" saw the first one"Habits" saw the second one, but Fancy did it much better than I did.  This week we say goodbye to "Edge of a Revolution", a 7 week #1 last year, and a pretty long stayer on the chart. It was a #1 debut, which is fairly rare, but Nickelback tends to defy odds quite a bit. The song's final weeks were a bit miserable, as this week it was officially put out of its mercy, and will forever stay in the hearts of the chart. We also say goodbye to fellow Nickelback #1, "Million Miles an Hour", but that doesn't get a memorial service because no one cares it didn't stay as long as Edge. On the bright side to Nickelback's falling these past few weeks, "Get 'Em Up" looks an easy re-entry next week with the announcement of it as the next single. #LiveOnForeverNickelback
