The Battle for Number One & Top 10 Takeover
April brings an absolute earthquake to the upper echelon of the chart, with new releases dominating. The Strokes crash the party with a massive Hot Shot Debut, taking "Going Shopping" straight to #1.
Meanwhile, Noah Kahan's “The Great Divide” remains incredibly resilient. After hitting #1 in February and dropping to #2 in March, it holds perfectly steady at #2 this month, refusing to back down. The rest of the Top 10 is flooded with high-profile debuts, including Cannons at #3 ("Light as a Feather"), beabadoobee ft. The Marías at #5 ("All I Did Was Dream of You"), BUNT. & Malou at #8 ("i need u"), and Royel Otis at #9 ("Sweet Hallelujah"). Fully half of the Top 10 is made up of brand-new songs!
The Long-Term Climbers
Looking back at February and March, a few songs have shown incredible, slow-burn staying power:
sombr is the ultimate underdog story right now. “Homewrecker” has been on a flawless upward trajectory, climbing from #12 in February, to #8 in March, and now leaping another +4 spots to hit a new peak of #4.
ALEXSUCKS is also grinding it out. “Autopilot” has been slowly making its way up the ranks, going from #25 in February, to #24 in March, and finally breaking into the top 20 this month with a +5 jump to #19.
Rock Solid: The Unmovable "Starlight"
In a chart defined by extreme volatility, massive jumps, and freefalls, Cannons has achieved something genuinely bizarre and impressive. Their track “Starlight” has held the exact same position—#17—for three consecutive months (February, March, and April). It is the definition of going steady!
The Gorillaz Collapse & The Two-Month Freefalls
Last month was defined by absolute Gorillaz domination, but April sees that hype train come to a screeching halt.
Their former #1 hit “Orange County” plunges -9 spots to just barely cling to the Top 10 at #10.
"The Sad God" plummets -15 spots down to #20.
"The Happy Dictator" takes the worst hit of the month, collapsing -21 spots from #11 to #32.
Furthermore, the songs that took a beating in March's Top 10 reshuffle are continuing their steep descents into chart oblivion this month:
Former February Top 5 hits Delaney Bailey's “How To” and Holly Humberstone’s “To Love Somebody” are in a two-month death spiral. They fell -12 spots last month, and drop another -11 spots this month to land at #26 and #27.
Oxis ("Dogfish") and Ayleen Valentine ("two shots in and sobbing") continue their freefall as well, slipping down into the mid-30s after spending February comfortably in the Top 10.
Alice Costelloe (“Feet On The Sand”) and Adam Klobi (“Fiction”) are also suffering from the chart expansion, both dropping -14 spots to barely hang on at the very bottom of the new 50-spot chart.
Notable Debuts Further Down
Outside of the Top 10, the expanded chart makes room for a slew of fresh entries. Kevian Kraemer starts strong at #15 with “down under,” while pop heavyweight Olivia Rodrigo enters at #18 with “drop dead.” Further down, Ruel (#28), Dexter And The Moonrocks (#43), and Solya (#45) all make their first appearances.
