Chart

Braintree Top 40

The battle for the top spot continues to be a thrilling race as Celina pushes Loren Allred’s “Never Enough” into power rotation for the second week in a row.  Unfortunately, the combined power of Josh, Emm!e, and Emily proved too much as “The Middle” notches a 2nd week at #1 with “My My My” rising to #2.  “Rewrite the Stars” was able to hit a new peak of #6 with the help of Emily, who also aids in the new peak for “She Loves Control” which shoots up 37-7.

Other than “The Middle,” the most Emm!e did this week was keep her gurl Halsey on the chart, as “Bad at Love” pushes back up 29-22 in its 15th week.  Daina sticks “Havana” back into the top ten yet again and also gives “Tip Toe” an added boost to #13.  In fact, “Tip Toe” and “Do Right” are the only songs that were played by at least 4 out of 5 members this week.  Celina stuck to her guns as she left The Greatest Showman on repeat.  The soundtrack loses some ground, only putting 5 songs on the chart as opposed to 8 last week, but still shows impressive numbers even though the initial viewing was two weeks ago.  Celina also gives Justin Timberlake a 2nd chart entry with his newest single, “Say Something” featuring Chris Stapleton.  It will most likely get another bump next week as he is performing the Super Bowl Halftime Show on Sunday.

Emily gets her own paragraph because she’s special.  Not really, but she did have a big influence on this week’s chart as she gives “Let Me Go” a leg up to #12 and also helps Hailee Steinfeld get her 3rd entry with “Capital Letters” off of the 50 Shades Freed soundtrack.  The song debuts at #19, her 2nd best peak already after “Let Me Go” peaked at #5 last year.  Finally, she got Maroon 5 to chart again with “Wait,” their 4th entry to-date.  Interestingly, “Wait” has waited quite some time to make it onto the Braintree Top 40 before Emily finally gave it enough love to help it debut this week at #24.

The GRAMMYs aired this weekend and while there were many controversies over who won and lost, it looks like the real winners were Kesha and P!nk, who re-enter the chart at #23 and #31 respectively.  Kesha gave an emotional performance of GRAMMY-nominated “Praying” that brought Hailee Steinfeld to tears (and me, of course) while P!nk performed the album track, “Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken.”  While that song didn’t chart, GRAMMY-nominated “What About Us” was able to bounce back into the Top 40.  Although Bruno Mars won the three biggest awards of the night, his current single “Finesse” falls 7-9.

Next week, we’ll potentially see an uptick in Justin Timberlake numbers as both his album and his halftime show take place, as mentioned above.  Aside from that abomination, we also have new Vance Joy, which should excite Emm!e.  Can Celina finally get “Never Enough” to the top or will she replace The Greatest Showman with JT in her power rotation?  Can Josh, Emm!e, and Emily stave off these threats and keep “The Middle” at #1?  Will Daina ever get Marina & the Diamonds to chart??  Find out next week!
