Braintree Top 40

Braintree Top 40 – DAINA STRIKES BACK!  This week, we see a stampede of hot shot debuts thanks to Daina as she is solely responsible for 13 entries including 11 debuts.  She even dethroned “The Middle,” which had been #1 for three consecutive weeks and 4 overall.  Our new top song in Braintree is “IDGAF” by Dua Lipa!  This is Dua Lipa’s 2nd #1 and has been played by everyone except Emm!e so far.  “IDGAF” also sets the record for longest climb to #1 as it hits the top spot in its 22nd week on the chart.

Elsewhere in the top ten, we see “Bad Habits” get a 2nd week at its peak at #5 after peaking at #5.  We also have four top ten debuts with Freedom Fry’s “Awake” and MAGIC GIANT’s “Jade,” “Glass Heart” & “Hideaway” debuting at #7, 8, and 9 respectively.

While “IDGAF” celebrates at the top, “New Rules” finds itself displaced from the chart completely after Daina’s invasion.  This marks the first time the former chart-topper has left the chart since its inception and is also the final song from the chart’s debut to leave.  We salute you, “New Rules” and all the wisdom you have provided us over the past twenty-nine weeks!

Emm!e found herself too busy in Portland to bother listening to anything this week, so she put up a big ole goose egg.  Celina, on the other hand, finally returns!  She would have had a pretty influential week too if it hadn’t been for that meddling Daina.  Therefore, Celina only gets her favorite song of the past few months, “Never Enough,” to sneak on in at #40 after a few weeks’ absence.  Emily continued her support of the Braintree Top 40 Spotify playlist, keeping “The Middle” at #2 and contributing to many other songs’ continued stay on the chart even with Daina’s influence.  Breagh kept her Sheepdogs on the chart with “Nobody” coming in at #39.

Speaking of Breagh, BREAKING NEWS out of Canada.  Hedley has decided to disband after lead singer, Jacob Hoggard admits to sexual misconduct.  Hedley previously had a Braintree with “All Night” that peaked at #7 back in October of last year.

One debut to note is MNEK’s “Tongue,” which debuts at #34 after less than 12 hours of release.  What’s interesting is that MNEK has contributed to two of Braintree’s #1s: he made a cameo in Charli XCX’s video for “Boys” and wrote “IDGAF” with Dua Lipa!  Can MNEK have a #1 all his own?  We’ll have to wait and see if it catches on with the rest of Braintree.

Next week looks to be another doozy as we see new releases from Troye Sivan, Fickle Friends, The Neighbourhood (of “Sweater Weather” fame) and the dreaded Meghan Trainor.  We also see ALMA drop her new mixtape which features collaborations with Tove Styrke and MØ, so that should be good.  Can Daina continue her totalitarian rise to power or will we see a coup d’état next week?  Will we finally see a week where all 6 of us contribute?  Find out next week!
