Braintree Top 40

BOTTOMS UP – After 3 weeks at #1, Jess Glynne takes a backseat as Troye Sivan comes from behind to power his way to the top spot.  The bottoming anthem makes the 2nd biggest jump of all-time as “Bloom goes 21-1 in its 5th week and also gives Troye his 2nd #1 after “My My My!” peaked at #1 in January.  This is due to the explosive word-of-mouth “Bloom” received while at Emily and Mike’s wedding this weekend (more on that later).  The minute Emm!e heard the song was about buttholes, she was sold! “2002” also reaches a new peak of #4, thanks to Emm!e and Celina.  Alvaro Soler earns his 1st top five with Emily’s song of the summer, “La Cintura”.

Elsewhere in the top ten, Camila Cabello gets her 3rd top ten as “Sangria Wine” surges to #6 and Celine Dion finally gets her much-deserved top ten placement as “Ashes” jumps to #9!  Felicitations a toi, Celine! Just outside the top ten, King Princess makes its debut with “1950,” thanks to Emm!e. The song caught fire when Harry Styles retweeted it a few weeks ago and it looks to be catching on in Braintree finally.  We also have Dennis Lloyd debuting at #16 with “Nevermind,” thanks to Breagh. Her other contribution went to Led Zeppelin appearing at #36 with “Whole Lotta Love,” which I never thought I’d see in Braintree.

Emm!e had a stellar week as she traveled from New Jersey to Boston, Boston to Portsmouth, Portsmouth to Boston, and finally Boston to New Jersey all in the span of one weekend, which meant plenty of time to blast some tunes.  Aside from those already mentioned, she also got Pnau to debut with “Go Bang,” a big hit in Australia already, as well as Adventure Club while also keeping “Delicate” on the chart at #17. Daina had a much quieter week after going deaf from all the Steven Universe songs she listened to last week.  She contributed to the “Bang Bang” debut along with Josh, Celina, and Catie and also kept a few Steven Universe tracks to inhabit the bottom of the chart. Catie finally influenced the chart with the aforementioned “Bang Bang” debut at #27. You go, gurl!

Now it’s time to talk about the wedding!  First off, congratulations to Emily & Mike!  It was an incredible weekend and those who went all had a marvelous time.  Now, back to the chart. Celina had quite an influence this week, but it was because she only spun the #PyleOnTheLove wedding playlist (which received critical acclaim from not just Josh, who made it!).  Emily had a quiet week as she spent most of her time getting married. She did help bring Selena Gomez back to the chart as “Back to You” from 13 Reasons Why season 2 debuts at #34. The other big wedding story would be the re-entry of the bachelorette part smash and very first #1 on the chart, “Boys” by Charli XCX.  Bridesmaid Liz P. made certain this would re-chart as it returns at #32 for the week.

Next week, we see the release of a new Maroon 5 remix featuring Cardi B called “Girls Like You”.  We also get new material from The 1975, Gorillaz, Charli XCX, and Lauv. Will Troye have the endurance to be on top again or will “Bloom” fall back as its lyrics dictate.  If it does, who will take its place? Find out next week on the Braintree Top 40!
