Chart

Top 20

"Wolves" at the top for fifth week, Little Mix and P!nk start strong.

For the fifth non-continuous week, "Wolves" sits at the chart summit, #1. Selena Gomez has now totalled an impressive 26 weeks at #1 in 2017; "It Ain't Me" (wih Kygo) and "Bad Liar" spent 8 weeks respectively, "Fetish" (with Gucci Mane) spent 4 weeks and "Kill Em With Kindness (Acoustic)" spent 1 week at the top spot. Will "Wolves" be able to become Gomez's biggest #1 of the year and spend 9 weeks at the top? Marshmello is also enjoying a huge hit thanks to this song. In just 6 weeks, "Wolves" is already #9 on the 2017 leaderboard.

Gomez and Marshmello did have some competition this week as the rest of the top 3 is compiled of new entries. Little Mix reach a 2017 peak as "Is Your Love Enough?" debuts at #2. This is their 9th chart entry this year and 5th top 10. However, "Is Your Love Enough?" benefited from a big boost early on in the week but its popularity dropped rapidly throughout the week. This song's longevity is questionable. At #3 is P!nk with "Beautiful Trauma"; After an incredible performance at the American Music Awards and a terrific music video, this song has caught on. "Beautiful Trauma" is P!nk's 3rd top 10 hit from her recent album (of the same name). Big things are expected for this song, could it dethrone "Wolves" in the weeks to come?

The biggest and (sadly) only climber this week is Lizzo with "Good as Hell". The song jumps 5 spaces to #4, a new peak for Lizzo and this song. This is the song's 3rd charting week and so far it has only ever moved up, if it continues that pattern, #1 is not too far away. Rounding out the top 5 is Taylor Swift's "This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things" which slips 3 places to #5. TIWWCHNT is experiecing a chart lifecycle similar to that of an official single, it definitely is standing the test of time. Swift's second #1 of 2017 is already #36 on the 2017 leaderboard despite only charting for 3 weeks. Last weeks's surprise re-entry, "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons drops 3 places to #6 this week. This is the song's 5th week charting and has now officially reached hit status.

Back to the usual Taylor watch, including TIWWCHNT, there are currently 7 songs from "reputation" on this week's chart, just one less than last week- "reputation" could possibly be the hit-making album of the year. "I Did Something Bad" drops 3 places to #7, "End Game" featuring Ed Sheeran and Future slides 3 spots to #8, "Don't Blame Me" re-enters at #9, "Look What You Made Me Do" holds at #10, "...Ready for It?" returns at #13 and "Gorgeous" returns at #19. Notable certifications for Swift this week include "Gorgeous" being certified as a hit (5 weeks) and "...Ready for It?" reaching big hit status (10 weeks). Swift's album really does continue to dominate the chart, it'll be interesting to see how long this will last.

The biggest new entry outside of the top 10 comes from Kelly Clarkson with "Love So Soft". The song debuts at #11. This is Clarkson's first chart entry all year. Little Mix's "Power' (the non-Stormzy version) also returns to the chat at #12. Selena Gomez's "Bad Liar" is this week's biggest faller, slipping 6 spaces to #14. The song has now spent 29 weeks on the chart, it would be unfortunate if it was unable to hit the 30-week milestone. Sam Smith keeps Christmas in the charts as his rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" debuts at #15. Like last week, festive favourites will be popping up more and more as it gets closer to the big day.

The bottom quarter of the chart is made up of songs by Katy Perry, Khalid, Rita Ora, Taylor Swift and Clean Bandit/Julia Michaels. Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj re-enter the chart with "Swish Swish"  at #16. This is the song's 13th week on the chart and is both artist's biggest of the year. Khalid falls 5 places with "Young Dumb & Broke" to #17; The song was expected to ascent the chart not slide down it. Rita Ora is not going "Anywhere" at #18 which holds its place. The song has now spent 4 weeks on the chart. Finally, "I Miss You" by Clean Bandit and Julia Michaels returns to the chart at #20. This is the song's third charting week and previously peaked at #11.
