Chart

Billboard Hot 30

After the hayday of the holiday season, songs skyrocket to new peaks this week as all the Christmas songs depart the chart this week. "Without Me" by Halsey continues its lead over the chart as it has a strong showing in all three of the charts metrics. In airplay, "WIthout Me" ranks just inside the top five, in sales, Halsey is inside the top three, and for streaming, "Without Me" ranks at number five. The strong showing in multiple metrics is rare in todays chart as songs that lead streaming are mostly rap/hip-hop orientated; however, they lack both radio and sales. On the other hand, songs that are strong in radio are more pop-orientated or their streams have already decreased as radio takes months for a song to hit number one. All of this only makes Halsey's "Without Me" even the more impressive. At number two, "High Hopes" by Panic! at the Disco defies industry forecasters by moving up into the runner-up spot. "High Hopes" benefits from AC and HAC stations switching back to regular music after the holiday season and an irregular rise in streaming numbers as the song finally debuts in the top thirty of the streaming songs three months into its chart run. Also aiding the song, "High Hopes" leads radio airplay with a comfortable lead over "Without Me".  Should the streams for "High Hopes" continue to rise from year-end countdowns, the song could overtake Halsey and lead the chart; however, the race is very close and Halsey too might experiene a radio push after Christmas or an increase in streams. Should "High Hopes" end up peaking at number two, it would only be the second song in chart history to peak in the runner-up spot after Lil Dicky and Chris Brown with "Freaky Friday" as the song was blocked by the debut of Drake's "Nice For What" (another notorious blockage is Lil Baby and Drake's "Yes Indeed" which peaked at number eleven but spent mostly all of its chart run between eleven to twenty).
