Chart

Haziq's Hot 40 (December 28, 2024) + HH40's Top 100 Songs of 2024

(The tracking period for this week's regular chart is from 12/13/2024 to 12/19/2024, while the one for the year-end chart is from 12/01/2023 to 11/28/2024.)

What's good, everybody? Welcome to the special year-end edition of Haziq's Hot 40! Well, 2024 has finally come to an end, and for me, I can say that it was another year filled with mixed emotions, especially taking into account all the happenings in the world, good and bad. There are a lot of things I wanna share, but I don't think this is the right spot to do so. But, 2024 has given us one of the most exciting years for music in recent history. This past year, Kendrick Lamar officially ended Drake's career, Billie Eilish hit us Hard and Soft, Charli xcx gave us a Brat summer we will never forget, Beyonce went country and gave us Cowboy Carter, Dua Lipa gave us some Radical Optimism during these troubling times, Addison Rae gave us a can of Diet Pepsi, Sabrina Carpenter had us begging Please Please Please for another Taste of her Espresso, finally making her the it girl of pop ten years into her career, Taylor Swift continued to be the biggest person in the world to polarized results, Benson Boone gave us some Beautiful Things that he got, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars made us Die With A Smile, Ariana Grande gave us eternal sunshine, and lastly, Chappell Roan wished us Good Luck, Babe!, and then was ready and Hot To Go and have us all dancing at the Pink Pony Club! Oh, before I forget, Rose made us meet her at the APT.

And now, as we bid farewell to 2024 and say hello to 2025, I will reveal "my version of 2024 Wrapped": HH40's top 100 songs of 2024. This is in addition to HH40's current top 40 chart as displayed below. This year-end chart list comprises the 100 best-performing hits throughout the past 12 months on Haziq's Hot 40, based on the weekly charts of the same name that ranks my most-played songs every week. The chart's survey/tracking period for 2024 is from December 1, 2023 to November 28, 2024, which reflects the chart year beginning with HH40 chart for the week ending December 16, 2023 and ending with the one for December 7, 2024. The rankings are based on points received by each song, based on its weekly chart position during its chart run within the survey period only. The points, the peak position, and the number of weeks spent by a song outside of it will not be counted into this list. So, without further ado, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you:

Over the tracking period for 2023, I've streamed more than 300 songs, 194 of them were on my top 40 chart, and of all those, 18 have become number one hits. However, there's only ONE tune that reigned supreme throughout the year. What is it? Well, it's an R&B ballad about heartbreak and betrayal that leads you to seeking revenge to your ex-lover. (singing) "I might k*** my ex, not the best idea, his new girlfriend's next, how'd I get here?..." That's right, SZA's megahit Kill Bill is HH40's #1 song for all of 2023! That song spent 6 giant weeks at the top position during the start of the year, and remained in top ten for 20 weeks. In total, it had spent 35 weeks inside the HH40 chart. But it's not the longest one - because that honor goes to Calm Down by Rema and Selena Gomez, which spent 40 weeks on the chart this year! (actually, 48 weeks in total, but the other 8 is not counted here since it was spent in 2022.)

As for this year's top album, I thought it's gonna be Taylor Swift's Midnights or Olivia Rodrigo's GUTS, or SZA's SOS. If I have to pick one, I would choose the record that is so huge that I can enjoy and listen to all year long. And my pick is the album produces 6 hit singles, with 4 of them charting this past year and appearing on this year-end chart: Kill Bill (#1), Snooze (#45), Nobody Gets Me (#52), and Shirt (#92). They're all my favorite jams from SZA's SOS, perhaps her biggest album to date. That's the record that becomes my Top Album of the Year!

But that doesn't stop there. Not only does SZA have my top song and album of 2023, she also gets a triple crown, as she is my Top Artist of the Year! It's no surprise when her songs are playing everywhere on streaming apps and radio stations all over the world. She has constantly been on my playlist this past year, and sure, I'm looking forward to her next project. Hopefully she'll be back in the studio to record and drop new music soon. Gotta keep streaming SZA now :)

Meanwhile, HH40's current top 40 survey sees the JoBros, Lantis, Projectors, Cannons, and Benson Boone debuting with their latest hits. New in the top ten are Teddy Swim's Lose Control (#8), and Tyla's latest global hit Water (#9). Plus, The Kid LAROI moves up two spots from last week to score the last number one song of 2023, with TOO MUCH (with Jungkook and Central Cee). That hit also ranks at #78 on HH40's year-end countdown.

So there you have it - my personal top 100 songs of the past year based on a compilation of HH40 weekly charts. And below is the full list of my personal top 40 songs for this week - the last week of 2023. What a heck of a year it has been, may this coming year bring us joy, happiness, prosperity, strength, and good health, as well as fresh, quality beats too. Until then, have a safe new year, and see you on Haziq's Hot 40 in 2024!
