Chart

James' Top 100 - April 14, 2017

A #1 debut!!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!

Notes:

  • We have a #1 debut this week! Ryan Hurd makes his chart debut with a big bang, as his song "Love in a Bar" debuts at the throne. It has barely been off of repeat this past week, and I am obsessed. It debuts with 66 plays in a full week. It got enough action last week where it appeared on On the Rise, but not enough to debut. This actually has the chance to be on top for a long time.
  • Cold War Kids enter the Top 10 with "Love Is Mystical" flying up 13-7 for a new peak. This was aided by the release of LA Divine this week, but this was looking to go Top 10 regardless. They're looking to stretch their Top 5 streak to 5 in a row to start their chart careers, something that should be attainable next week. "Can We Hang On?" moves into the Top 50 by going 51-48 for a new peak. "Restless" also makes its debut at #88. These two will probably ruin their streak, unless both turn into singles (which I don't see happening, at least for "Restless").
  • "Feel It Still" is making some big gains. Last week, it moved 40-30, then this week 30-15. This is starting to really heat up on the chart and should either go Top 10 next week, or fall just short (my bet is on the former). This is starting to look like it could potentially go #1 in the future, but for now, Top 3 is looking like its peak.
  • As Ryan Hurd debuts at #1 with "Love in a Bar", he also debuts "City Girl" at #62 this week. "Love in a Bar" got a lot of attention through the whole tracking period, while this got its attention in the latter half. I heard this one about a month ago and liked it a lot, but I just now added it. They both should be able to chart concurrently with one another. Whichever single gets picked as his debut radio single will be benefitted the most, but both are in the position to do very well on the chart.
  • The Chainsmokers debut a song from their debut album Memories...Do Not Open, as "Break Up Every Night" appears at #81 this week. The album itself was incredibly mediocre, as this is the only song I liked from it. I'm not sure how I will chart it going forward. This might burn out pretty quickly for the time being, but if it does become a single, I can see it doing moderately well. For now, this should stick around for a month or so, considering I don't plan on charting the two actual singles ("Paris", "Something Just Like This") from the album.
  • Harry Styles makes his chart debut this week with his debut single "Sign of the Times" coming in at #82. His former band One Direction never charted on my chart, but did see On the Rise a few times, but Harry is the second member of the group to chart, as ZAYN has charted twice, "PILLOWTALK" (#14), "LIKE I WOULD" (#49). This is definitely the best quality song released from the 1D members, but its chart positions might not reflect that. It is a bit overlong at 6 minutes (though it doesn't feel like it!), and it's more of a power ballad, but I can see this overcoming some obstacles. For now, a Top 50 peak is definitely attainable since I do really like this one.
  • Incubus chart another song from their upcoming album 8 this week, as "State of the Art" appears at #96 this week. "Nimble Bastard" (67-60) is still doing well, and should continue to do so, but this might not be a flash in the pan. They are both very different sonically, so charting two Incubus songs at once should not be an issue. I'm not sure how this one will do, but expect to see this continue to climb barring any unforeseen circumstances.
  • The final debut of the week goes to unknown band Honest Men, as they debut their song "There on the Wall" at #97. I discovered these guys through Noisetrade, where you can get their debut album Okay Dreamer for free and legally! They have a similar sound to Young The Giant, so obviously I would enjoy it. I see this one doing pretty well actually, peaking somewhere around the Top 40. They also see "Colors" on On the Rise this week, but I think I'll start off with "There on the Wall" as the single I chart.
