Chart

James' Top 20 - July 10, 2014

3 debuts!

Notes:

  • Tove Lo leads the pack for her 10th week on the chart with "Habits". It makes a nice +14 movement and is keeping a very sustainable lead above the #2 spot. Though #2 is rising fast.
  • "Love Runs Out" by: OneRepublic moves to the #2 spot, denying "Rude" (2-3) of likely its last shot at #1. OneRepublic looks to gain their 2nd #1 in a row after "Counting Stars" (20-17) led for 30 straight weeks. Though "Habits" is above by a good amount of points, this has been gaining a lot of traction as of late and could hit #1 in a few weeks.
  • "Back Home" by: Andy Grammer hops into the Top 5 gaining a new peak. This was in a duel with "Falling for the Beat" (#6) for the #5 spot, but this came out on top. Next week, there could be room for both of them.
  • Luke James hops into the Top 10 with "Options" (feat. Rick Ross) going 13-9 in its 2nd week. At the rate its going, a Top 5 is definitely attainable for the R&B track.
  • Matt Nathanson scores the top debut with "Headphones" (feat. LOLO) at #11. I have been absolutely in love with this song since it premiered, and this actually has a very good shot at going #1 in the near future. This is the first entry for Matt and the second entry for LOLO, who appeared as a featured artist on Panic! At the Disco's track "Miss Jackson" which hit #12 last year.
  • "Classic" by: MKTO moves up another 2 spots to #12 this week for a new peak. It's eyeing a spot in the Top 10 next week.
  • "Am I Wrong" by: Nico & Vinz drops for the first time in its 5 week chart run, going 11-14. This is a longshot for it to hit Top 10 at the rate it is currently going, but it could end up having a "Riptide" run.
  • Speaking of "Riptide", it slides 15-12 this week. It was making gains the past few weeks and was actually looking to get back into the Top 10, but it takes a fall this week with its +0 play count. This has had a very awkward chart run so far, it had a hot start going to #8 in a few short weeks, but it has stayed in the 12-16 range for numerous amounts of weeks now. With its rise on Alternative right now, and likely a pop push later this year, this might have a super long chart run and best its #8 peak in a few months.
  • Childish Gambino scores the 2nd debut of the week with "3005" coming in at #16. This is another song that might make some noise towards the top, as this is one of my favorite songs at the moment. I just recently bought his album Because the Internet and that is becoming one of my top albums of 2014, so this should have some momentum going into next week for a possible Top 10 entry. The main reason I've been giving a lot of attention to Childish Gambino as of late, is because I am absolutely obsessed with Community, a show he is a main character on, right now. If you look at my Twitter, I've been tweeting like crazy about it lol. This is his 2nd entry on the chart, following "Heartbeat" which hit #6.
  • "Touchin, Lovin" by: Trey Songz (feat. Nicki Minaj) scores the final debut at #20 this week. It took me till the other day to realize that I have been listening to a sped-up version of the song the whole time. Strangely, I like the sped-up one more than the original. The link to the song is the sped-up version, not the album version. This song is the main reason "Wiggle" dropped out. It was sitting at #21, but I decided to chart this since it has had some big gains the past few weeks compared to "Wiggle". "Wiggle" would have been at #20 if it wasn't for this.
  • "Wiggle" drops out of the chart from #15, which wasn't really planned. I'm probably a little bias when it comes to the songs with the overly-long chart runs, so this one kind of dropped out due to me being a little bias. Even though this has really burned on me, this is really tied at #20 with "Touchin, Lovin"  But I'm giving that one the benefit of the doubt due to its success. Next week it could re-enter if no other debuts come in, since "Touchin, Lovin" could potentially be a one-weeker. "On Top" and "Peace" were relatively easy ones to drop from the chart since they have had zero gains for like a month now.
  • Speaking of re-entries, there could be two in the near future. "Resonance" by: Luvbug (feat. Talay Riley), which fell out a few weeks ago, was looking to re-enter this week, but fell short behind the 3 debuts. This could see a re-entry soon. Also another one is "Rather Be" by: Clean Bandit (feat. Jess Glynne). That one fell out after a fairly short chart run and I thought it would re-enter a few weeks later, but it ended up falling out of the Top 50 by then. Now it's starting to climb its way back in. Both of these songs are ineligible to rechart on the On the Rise chart, since that is for songs that have not debuted yet (like the Bubbling Under the Hot 100).
