James' Top 40 - June 17, 2015

3 debuts!

Notes:

  • Saint Motel tightens its grip on the throne as "My Type" stays atop for its 3rd week with a +9 play increase. It has distanced itself from "A Taste of Silver" and the other competition, so this may run with the lead for awhile longer. "Halo" (4-3) likely won't catch up to it next week, but that and "Crave" (7-5) should be in the battle in two or three weeks.
  • "Dead Inside" enters the Top 10, as it goes 13-10 for a new peak. The song has been steadily rising and should keep doing so for the time being. It doesn't look like it has the gas to go #1, let alone even go Top 5, but this one might linger on the chart even after it peaks.
  • "Cheyenne" motors 19-13 for a new peak. The song is looking more and more like a #1, and it doesn't look to be stopping anytime soon. This might be able to battle with "Halo" and "Crave" in the same time frame for #1.
  • Royal Blood enter the Top 20 with "Little Monster" going 26-20 for a new peak. The song has caught some fire and is looking to keep rising. This one has a lot of replay value on its side (+9 play increase), as sometimes I'll listen to this a few times in a row. This one could be looking at a Top 5 peak in the future.
  • "Shots" picks up yet again as it climbs 24-21 for a new peak. It is starting to slow down a bit, but it's not really looking to go down. Imagine Dragons could see another entry in the coming weeks if they decide to release a single to Alternative (this is done there), while this climbs the Pop charts.
  • The country songs both respark this week and are looking to climb again. "Take Your Time" blasts 29-24 for a new peak, while "Loving You Easy" rebounds 32-29. Both are looking at mid-teen peaks, but it'll probably be a bumpy ride for both.
  • Wrabel scores the top debut with "I Want You" coming in at #30 with a 22 play debut. This doesn't have a full week under its belt, so it's gearing up to make a splash next week. This is Wrabel's first chart entry, but I foolishly never charted "Sideways", though it should have. It was On the Rise for 7 weeks. He also appeared as a featured artist on Afrojack's "Ten Feet Tall", which was On the Rise for 2 weeks. This could make up the ground that "Sideways" was never able to make.
  • Last week's debuts all rise this week for new peaks. "Bad Girls" climbs 36-32, "Take You Away" moves 35-34, and "We Move Like the Ocean" moves 40-37.
  • The second debut goes to Tinie Tempah, as "Not Letting Go" comes in at #33. This one took in a big week this week, and was able to push through after a slower start at the beginning of the period. This looks like it could be a huge summer hit on the chart. This is Tinie's 4th entry following, "Written in the Stars" (#4), "Till I'm Gone" (#17), and "Trampoline" (#8). This is Jess Glynne's second; she was a featured artist on Clean Bandit's "Rather Be", which peaked at #11.
  • The third and final debut is the most surprising: "Virgins" comes in at #36. It was in the middle of the pack for last week's big On the Rise column, and was not looking like it would debut. This put up a much bigger week than anticipated, garnering around 12 plays this week, and was pretty constant through the whole period. Something hit me with the track and I'm starting to get into it a lot now. This is Death From Above 1979's first chart entry, and actually their first song I've listened to (they've been around since the 90s). "Nothin' Left" could debut if it gets a single release.
  • Some big tumbles occur this week with the debuts and the big movers. "Darkest Part" drops 9 positions (22-31), as it is looking at its final 2-3 weeks on the chart. "Baby Blue" drops 8 positions (27-35), "West End Kids" drops 4 (34-38), and "Nobody Praying For Me" drops 7 (33-40). Those three are looking for rebounds, since this week they were at the wrong place at the wrong time (well "Nobody Praying For Me" had it coming). "Baby Blue" and "Nobody Praying For Me" were looking to fall off soon anyways, but "West End Kids" might have its life cut much further than thought. "Billion" takes the biggest hit though, as it drops an astounding 11 positions, going 28-39, as it looks at its final week on the chart. This one took a beating, and is finally looking to be put out of its misery.
  • Though there were only three debuts this week, 5 more almost occurred, as the first 5 on On the Rise this week all had fair shots at debuting. "Pull Up" and "Memento Mori" were looking one-weekers to start, so they likely won't see the chart next week. "Can't Feel My Face" and "Cheerleader" (might end up combining the original and Felix Jaehn Remix together, not sure though) could be here next week, but should debut anytime now. "Ride" (along with "Stressed Out") could debut and take the place of "Tear In My Heart" which has already burned on me and that one is not even close to being done as a single. I might have to go out of my way for it (similar to Until the Ribbon Breaks situation).
