Chart

James' Top 40 - September 9, 2015

Notes:

  • "First" holds another week atop the chart to run its total to 4 weeks now. Cold War Kids hold the top two spots this week, as "Thunderhearts" moves 3-2 for a new peak. Next week should be a battle between the two, with "A Taste of Silver" (4-3) and "Heart Attack" (2-4) having outside shots. After the #4 spot, numbers 5-13 stay the same.
  • "The Hills" climbs into the Top 20 as it goes 21-17 for a new peak. This is starting to gain some momentum and should climb again next week. Guesses are that this should outpeak "Can't Feel My Face", which has seemingly peaked at #12. This has a shot at Top 10, but it probably will have to have a peak in the 7-10 region.
  • The Struts score a Top 20 hit this week as "Could Have Been Me" blasts 27-20 for a new peak. Last week I said that this would struggle to move up and be the lowest of the three mentioned (along with "R.I.P. 2 My Youth (29-23) and "Yin Yang" (30-28)), yet it went higher than those three. This had a very solid week and has actually boosted its predictions up. Expect this to move up for the next few weeks, especially with how everything in the upper tiers of the chart all starting to stall since the Top 4 has made it hard to move.
  • "Mountain At My Gates" takes a big jump, going 31-21 this week for a new peak. Top 20 is inevitable next week, and this actually has a shot at a Top 5 peak right now.
  • Selena Gomez scores her first Top 30 hit as "Good For You" climbs 32-30. This should end up peaking in the mid-20s, as it doesn't look to have a huge future ahead of it, but it's still a good peak for the song considering it re-entered randomly a few weeks ago. This is A$AP's third Top 30 hit, as "Wild For the Night" peaked at #9 and "F*ckin' Problems" peaked at #13.
  • Drake scores the top debut this week with "Hotline Bling" coming in at #34. This has had an odd run in On the Rise, as it looked like it could debut after being towards the top of the chart, before floundering the next week and repeating itself. This one finally hit me for good and this should become a decent sized hit for Drake.
  • "Been That Way" debuts at #37, marking Bryson Tiller's debut on the chart. This one actually bests "Don't", his current single, and should easily see a better peak than it. "Don't" could debut on the chart, but probably not for awhile. It hasn't totally struck me yet, but it has the potential. Bryson could be looking at two songs on the chart at the same time pretty soon.
  • The #40 spot belongs to David Cook as "Criminals" debuts this week. I didn't care for this when it came out, but it slowly grew on me and now I like it a lot. David could be seeing another song on the chart when Digital Vein releases, as I have really liked the live version for "I'm Gonna Love You", and that actually could have a shot at being a big album track if it lives up to its standards set by the live version. Currently, this only looks like a mid-20s peaker, but definitely has a lot of potential to grow. This is David's third charter following "Light On" and "Come Back to Me". This is the first time he has made the chart since 2009.
