Chart

James' Top 70 - October 20, 2016

In Memoriam:

This week we say goodbye to one of the longest running songs in the history of the chart: "A Taste of Silver" by: Until the Ribbon Breaks. Definitely one of the most random songs to hit #1 on the chart, this started off as a song that didn't look like it'd amount to much, then started to gain traction once it debuted, right before blasting from #13 to #1 to achieve a chart record (that still holds) for largest climb to #1 in a single week. It spent a total of 15 weeks at #1, ranging from the beginning of 2015 to the end, and numerous amounts of weeks in the Top 10. It leaves the chart this week with 93 weeks under its belt, sadly not being able to hit 100, and leaves ranking as one of the highest charting songs of all-time. Until the Ribbon Breaks are currently recording their sophomore album and are currently charting "Goodnight America" (35-30). In 2017, they should see their even more triumphent return to the chart, with maybe a #1 or two on their next album.

In happier news, A #1 DEBUT!?!!?!?!?!?!??!???!?!?!?

Notes:

  • A very surprising #1 debut occurs this week, as both Captain Cuts and Nateur make their chart debuts with the biggest bang possible, as their infectious track "Love Like We Used To" debuts at #1 this week with an astounding 72 plays for its debut. This was released last week and I fell in love on first listen. Definitely one of the best pop tracks to come out this decade, no lie. This is incredibly addictive and I could see this being a huge hit on radio with promotion. I know I said last week that "Kids" (1-2) would be a long-running #1, but this got right in the way. This might be able to hold the torch till the end of the year. That's how much I love this right now.
  • DNCE blasts into the Top 10 with "Body Moves" rising 13-6 for a new peak. This is looking to best "Cake By The Ocean"'s #3 peak, and it could do that very soon. Just a tad bit quicker than "Cake By The Ocean" did.
  • "Looking Up" spends its 52nd week on the chart this week, as it falls 15-17 this week. This actually could carry itself back into the Top 10 soon, as SafetySuit just announced their album comes out October 35th November 4th, and this and "Pause" (11-13), hell even "Never Stop" (41-42), should see huge boosts.
  • Lauren Alaina and Kelsea Ballerini score their first Top 20 hits with "Road Less Traveled" (24-19) and "Peter Pan" (25-20) respectively. Lauren could be looking at a Top 10 hit for herself soon, while Kelsea is nearing the end of the line. "Peter Pan" has been getting helped by the dead zone it just rocketed above, and now there are not many songs that are falling. This could potentially be its peak, or it could go up a few more positions.
  • Tove Lo has herself a nice week as "True Disaster" debuts at #57 this week. This looks like it could be a hit for Tove Lo, especially if this is the next single. "Cool Girl" finally looks like it may be breaking out if its shell, as it climbs 70-64 to set a new peak. It took her 9 weeks to surpass the #66 peak she set the song when it first debuted. I'm not sure how high this will go, but it will need to do better, especially for a lead single.
  • "29" re-enters the chart this week, already at a new peak, at #61 this week. This debuted at #67 back in March when Run River North released Drinking from a Salt Pond. This actually looks like it should be another hit for them. "Run or Hide" (14-16) has been one of the highest charting songs of the year, and this will look to get up to that. I also totally forgot this debuted when the album released, so pretend that every entry this had on On the Rise was under Re-Entry Watch!
  • Bastille make their chart return with "Send Them Off!" coming in at #68. They last saw the chart with "Pompeii" which peaked at #11. This actually gets the debut over the actual single, "Good Grief", as that one shows up on On the Rise this week. That one could get a debut next week.
