Joseph's Hit 40

She entered at #9 last week after just a few hours of availability, and this week, Katy Perry shoots up to the top, claiming her first EVER #1 single. Chained To the Rhythm goes one better than the #2 peak of Unconditionally, and becomes her fifth top 5 hit. It's also the first hit for Skip Marley (grandson of Bob Marley), meaning that every single artist who's been at #1 so far in 2017 has never achieved a #1 in the past.

Just losing out on the top spot this week is Anne-Marie with her newest single Ciao Adios. It entered higher than Chained To the Rhythm last week, having had an advantage of a few hours, but it falls just behind this week. Anne-Marie's personal best is the #1 peak achieved by Rockabye, and of course, Ciao Adios may still claim the top spot, considering it only lost out this week due to the high competition! However, she still outdoes her previous best as a lead artist, charting one place higher than #3 hit Alarm from last year.

This week's highest new entry comes from Frans Walfridsson, a 19 year-old Swedish singer. He's a total newcomer to my chart, and interestingly, I found him by accident about a year ago when searching for Frans Jeppsson-Wall (or simply Frans), the singer of If I Were Sorry. Emergency Call is new in at #8 this week, lower than the two #1s achieved by his namesake but nevertheless a very strong debut for a newcomer!

Also this week, Luke Friend returns with Hole in My Heart following its new single mix for its promotion in Germany with his new record label. The song spent three weeks at #1 back in 2015 - two initial weeks followed by a return to the top after I saw him live. Hole in My Heart is still actually Luke's most recent chart hit, as he's yet to put out a brand new single to follow this up.

Dinah Nah enters at #16 with her Melodifestivalen 2017 hit One More Night, marking the first song from this year's contest to chart. The first last year came from Smilo with Weight of the World. Dinah first charted two years ago with her last MFest entry Make Me (La La La), which made #22, so she achieves a new personal best. Alongside Katy Perry and Skip Marley as mentioned earlier, Dinah joins Zak Abel in achieving a new personal best this week.

Kygo & Selena Gomez are new at #11 with their collaboration It Ain't Me, but I'll discuss that in detail next week when it undoubtedly climbs with its first full week. Finally, Delta Goodrem enters at #30 with Heavy, the sixth single from her #1 album Wings of the Wild.
