Blackpink make “Jump” the first Number 1 by a girl group in six years

The girl groups are back – finally! With Netflix’s fictive Huntrix topping the international charts and Katseye in my personal Top 20, a girl group renaissance of some sorts seems to be upon us. The 2020s have showcased a serious decline in girl group’s success up until now, featuring significantly less hits than other decades. You could normally bet on a UK girl group to lead the charge, but after Little Mix disbanded, none sticked the landing. Instead, in front and centre, we have Blackpink, the South-Korea pop sensation. Consisting of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa, Blackpink debuted in 2016 in South-Korea with a string of hit singles off two single albums. They then became leading industry players on an international level with their singles “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du”, “Kill This Love” and “How You Like That”. Blackpink has been credited with helping K-pop cross over to the West, headlined Coachella Festival and they topped the Billboard Global 200. Their Born Pink Tour has gone on to become the highest-grossing concert tour by a female group. This week, Blackpink make the jump to Number 1 with their techno-infused “Jump”. It marks Blackpink’s first Number 1-single. The last girl group to top this list was Little Mix with 2019’s banger “Bounce Back”, which was the girls’ tenth and final Number 1-hit. During their sort-of hiatus, the Blackpink girls went solo with varying results. Jisoo went solo with “Flowers”, while Rosé achieved big international success with “APT.”, though both did not crack this Top 40. Lisa worked with RAYE and Doja Cat on the Top 40-hit “Born Again” and Jennie scored four Top 40-singles off her debut album Ruby, including a #11-peak for “Mantra” and a new collaboration with Dua Lipa.

Slowing down the tempo instead, we have Chappell Roan up at #5 with her soft “The Subway”, ahead of her headlining slot at Lowlands festival in the Netherlands. Chappell Roan has enjoyed a successful breakthrough last year when “Good Luck, Babe!” shot straight to Number 1 out of the blue. Her back catalogue quickly flooded my personal Top 40, with “Hot To Go!” and “Pink Pony Club” reaching the Top 3 years after its release dates. “Pink Pony Club” recently reached double platinum status and was the best-scoring release of 2025 until Pommelien Thijs her “Atlas” overtook that title two weeks ago. “The Giver” was ushered as Chappell Roan her first new release since “Good Luck, Babe!” and her mainstream breakthrough, subsequently earning another stellar Top 10-hit and cementing Chappell’s position as a leading force in the industry. On the dreamy follow-up “The Subway”, Chappell Roan takes inspiration from The Carpenters and echoes the late Karen Carpenter’s vocals. She initially was hesitant to release the song as full-fleshed single, thinking it worked better live. The choice to release it as a single anyway has paid off – it debuted at #1 on the UK Singles Charts and peaks at #5 on here.

Fresh at #23, we meet Dutch singer-songwriter Ruben Annink. The Amsterdam-born singer featured in the second season of The Voice Kids in The Netherlands and later was a candidate in the fourth season of The Best Singer-songwriter in which he became the runner up in the finals – all before age 17. His mainstream recognition came at the end of 2019 when we starred on De Beste Zangers along other established Dutch singers. After years of hard work, single releases and COVID-hardships, the young talent finally makes his Top 40-debut this week with “Blijf Dan Hier” – the highest new single of the week. He is joined by Danique, a 26-year-old singer that has also been steadily working on her music career for years. She’s been promoting her music on TikTok and has enlisted the help of writer Carlos Vrolijk, who also wrote for Snelle and Maan. With “Blijf Dan Hier”, Ruben Annink & Danique are surely bidding for a late summer hit in The Netherlands, and with their soft vocals and light tone, they’re a shew-in. It already earns both singers’ their debut in this Top 40.

At #37, American singer Tinashe makes her comeback with “No Broke Boys”, following a well-timed remix by Disco Lines that has taken over the UK. We last saw Tinashe on this list in 2017 – !!! – with “Text From Your Ex” featuring Tinie Tempah, earning the pop diva her first charting hit in over eight years. Tinashe’s biggest hit on here remains “Slumber Party”, her sultry team-up with Britney Spears that peaked at #2 for multiple weeks in 2016. Meanwhile, “Messy”-singer Lola Young rounds out the new entries of this week with “Dealer”. It is the third single off her breakout album I'm Only F**king Myself     that also features the Top 40-hit “One Thing”.

Hi Link!

Nice to see "Jump" at the top, "The Subway" in the top 5, "Nice To Each Other" with a new peak inside the top 10, the new peaks for "NUEVAYoL", "Like Jennie" and "Drive", the big gain for "12 To 12" and the debuts for "No Broke Boys" and "Dealer".

Great chart!
Take care.
