Calvin Harris, Dua Lipa and Young Thug take Number 1 with “Potion”, making chart-history

After multiple weeks in the Top 5, Calvin Harris his new “Potion” finally climbs to Number 1, earning the Scottish producer his seventh Number 1-hit. He now joins Justin Timberlake and Ronnie Flex on the list for male artists with the second-most Number 1s. Robbie Williams has scored the most chart-toppers with eight total. Calvin Harris is supported by the excellent Dua Lipa and Young Thug, with whom he both collaborated before on “One Kiss” and “Heatstroke” respectively. “Potion” marks Dua Lipa’s tenth Number 1-song on my chart and Young Thug his second. Young Thug previously took Number 1 as a feature on Camila Cabello’s breakout hit “Havana” in 2017. Dua Lipa now joins Britney Spears as the female solo artist with the most Number 1s in chart history. The act with the most Number 1s in history remain the Spice Girls with twelve chart-toppers. Dua Lipa’s “Levitating” is the best-scoring song of the 2020s so far.

Meanwhile, Dutch singer Maan and the iconic hip hop-formation De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig score a striking Top 5-debut with “Naar De Maan”. The smooth pop hit is somewhat of a surprise as De Jeugd does not frequently collaborate with other artists. De Jeugd are absolute icons in Dutch pop music ever since their debut album Parels Voor De Zwijnen was released in 2008. With hits such as “Sterrenstof” en “Get Spanish”, the boys quickly established themselves as household names in the Dutch industry. De Jeugd is supported by Maan, who is becoming a small icon in the Dutch music scene as well. Last week she made her debut at Pinkpop, one of The Netherlands’ biggest festivals, and her collaboration “Blijven Slapen” with Snelle was one of the highest-scoring songs of last year.

Outside the Top 10, “House on Fire”-singer Mimi Webb continues to climb with “Goodbye”, peaking at #13. Last week, the British talent made her debut at Pinkpop, which was well-received by critics. Zara Larsson and Alesso jump up twenty-one places with their collab “Words”. The Swedish duo is supported by increasing streaming figures. It marks Zara Larsson’s highest-peaking song since 2020’s “Like It Is” [#16]. Doja Cat also steadily moves up two places to #17 with the anthemic “Vegas”, taken from the new acclaimed Elvis Presley biopic.

Further down, Drake makes his grand return at #20 with his new house single “Massive”, taken from his seventh studio album Honestly, Nevermind. The Canadian talent has been a chart mainstay since his breakout Number 1 “What’s My Name” with Rihanna in 2010. Since then, he has scored back-to-back hits, including the multi-platinum “One Dance”. Drake has last appeared inside the Top 40 in 2020 with “Greece”. His newest album departs from Drake's previous, incorporating more house and dance styles, which has divided critics. The album’s second single “Massive” is off to a strong start, however, earning Drake his twenty-ninth Top 40-hit.

Meanwhile, Dutch DJ Tiësto and absolute icon Charli XCX debut at #29 with their new collab “Hot In It”. Tiësto last charted with the Top 5-hit “The Motto”, while Charli XCX’s latest album Crash spawned several Top 40-entries. Further down at #35, Dutch producer La Fuente appears with his new single “I Want You”, which has suddenly taken over the Dutch charts. Finally, Mabel debuts at #38 with her new song “Let Love Go” with “Ransom”-rapper Lil Tecca. The song is taken from Mabel’s upcoming album About Last Night, which also includes Mabel’s Top 10-hits “Let Them Know” and “Overthinking”.

While we have passed the halfway mark on this year already, I decided to count down the biggest hits of 2022 on my chart so far. Harry Styles claims the biggest song of 2022 so far with his comeback single “As It Was”. The song became the British singer his fifth Number 1 and has scored over 115.000 points since its release in April. Not far behind in second place is Dutch teen idol Antoon with “Hallo”, which topped the charts in March. Rex Orange County places third with his uplifting indie-hit “Keep It Up”, while Mimi Webb claims the biggest female hit of the year so far with “House on Fire” in fourth place. Lizzo places fifth with her uplifting disco-anthem “About Damn Time”. The biggest non-Number 1 of the year is “Anyone for You” [#3] by George Ezra in eighth place. Hi there Link!
Nice to see "Potion" reach the top, will be interesting to see if "Afraid To Feel" goes to #1 next week.
I also like the big gains for "Words" and "Glimpse Of Us" and the debuts for "Hot In It" and "Let Love Go".
Great chart!
