Céline Dion and Run-DMC fight for Number 1

My Heart Will Go On and It’s Like That lock positions as they battle for this week’s Number 1. Céline Dion her hit single is the strongest contender this week, securing a fourth consecutive week above the list, The single is becoming one of the fastest-scoring singles of the year. Run-DMC and Jason Nevins their remix should not be ruled out though, as they follow closely at Number 2 for a third consecutive week.

Funnily enough, both singles receive a Gold Certification this week. The two singles have scored over 40,000 points. My Heart Will Go On is Céline Dion her sixth singles to receive a Gold Status. Her highest-certified single is Think Twice, which celebrates a 2 x Platinum-status with 130,000 points. It’s Like That is Run-DMC and Jason Nevins their first single to achieve a Gold Status, since the song is the artist’s debut on the list.

The Backstreet Boys enter the Top 10 with All I Have to Give. The single is the boys’ seventh Top 10-hit on this list, following successes such as I'll Never Break Your Heart and As Long As You Love Me. The only boy group with more Top 10-hits is Boyzone, who have amassed over eight Top 10-entries. The Backstreet Boys do score more points on average, making them the more successful boy group. One milestone the Backstreet Boys have yet to achieve is a Number 1-hit. The two boy groups to have peaked above the list are Take That and No Mercy. Can the Backstreet Boys’ newest effort live up to its predecessors? We’ll have to wait and see. All I Have to Give climbs to Number 8 this week.

Aaliyah re-enters the Top 10 with The One I Gave My Heart To. The American singer has entered the list with small successes before, but she never managed to reach the Top 10. This week marks her first ever entry, as Aaliyah climbs to Number 10. The One I Gave My Heart To is her highest-peaking single to date, surpassing Back & Forth which peaked at Number 19 in early 1997. Aaliyah is one of the youngest singer-songwriters to ever chart within the Top 10, as she was only seventeen years old at the time of recording.

Eros Ramazzotti and Tina Turner score the highest debut of the week. Eros Ramazzotti is an Italian singer-songwriter who is popular in Italy and most European countries. The vocalist has been certified as one of the internationally most successful artists to emerge from Italy. For his newest single Can't Stop Thinking of You he is aided by Tina Turner. The American singer has entered the list before with the hit GoldenEye, which peaked at Number 2 and amassed over 65,000 points. Eros Ramazzotti and Tina Turner now collaborate for another hit. This is not the first time a bilingual song becomes a hit; Sarah Brightman and Andrea Bocelli scored a big hit with Time to Say Goodbye in June 1997. Eros Ramazzotti and Tina Turner debut at Number 17 this week.
