Ex-Spice Girl Geri Halliwell holds at Number 1 for a second week; the Backstreet Boys receive a 4 x Platinum Certification

Geri Halliwell celebrates a second consecutive week at Number 1 with Mi Chico Latino. The hit single follows the highly popular Spanglish-genre established by Ricky Martin, Enrique Iglesias and Jennifer Lopez. The single is Geri Halliwell her second Number 1-hit, following Look at Me earlier this year. That chart-topper coincidentally also debuted above the list. Geri Halliwell her singles are quickly becoming huge successes throughout Europe, cracking the Top 40 in almost every chart it hits. Mi Chico Latino faces competition from Enrique Iglesias in the second slot and Destiny’s Child in the third position.

TLC has made a hugely successful comeback this year. After internal fights within the group, a highly publicized lawsuit and problems to release a new album; TLC returned in full glory. The women scored a Number 1-hit with No Scrubs and re-achieved world fame. TLC now step into the Top 10 with Unpretty, a feel-good song about body positivity. The single is TLC their fifth Top 10-single, following successes such as Creep, Waterfalls and Red Light Special. TLC their new song peaks at Number 8 this week.

Boyzone is one of the biggest-scoring acts of all time. Boyzone scored one Number 1-hit with No Matter What, twelve Top 10-singles such as Words and A Different Beat and, conclusively, eighteen Top 40-entries. One of the members of Boyzone, Ronan Keating, goes solo this week to record a song for the new “Notting Hill”-film. Ronan Keating has been a prominent member of the group for a while. Ronan Keating his new single When You Say Nothing at All scores the highest debut of the week. Ronan Keating enters at Number 15, a very promising start for his solo career.

Two Spanglish-singles receive a Platinum Certification this week. The first is Livin’ La Vida Loca by Ricky Martin. The song became Ricky Martin his second proper single on this list, following María a few years ago. Enrique Iglesias also receives a Platinum Certification, achieving one for Bailamos. The song became Enrique Iglesias his first ever success, especially in many Spanish-speaking countries. Both songs peaked at Number 2, close to achieving the crown position. The songs have amassed over 65,000 points.

The Backstreet Boys receive a 4 x Platinum Certification for I Want It That Way. The single has become a global phenomenon, topping almost every chart it entered. On this list, the hit single became a Number 1-hit as well. The song spent eight weeks above the list, fighting off strong competition from Ricky Martin and Britney Spears. The hit is currently the second-best-scoring single of this year, probably overtaking …Baby One More Time which is in the lead. I Want It That Way is the best-scoring single by the Backstreet Boys.
