Goldband finally move to Number 1 with “Noodgeval” after twenty-two weeks in the Top 40, becoming the song with the longest climb from entering the Top 40 to the Number 1 spot in history. Goldband is an electro-pop group from The Hague, found by three previous plasterers. Their 2019 EP Dun Smeren, Geld Verdienen was critically acclaimed and their 2021 debut album Betaalbare Romantiek became a commercial success. “Noodgeval” is supported by an amazing performance at Lowlands Festival in the Netherlands, which was dubbed one of the best of the weekend. Goldband dethrone Steve Lacy’s “Bad Habit”, which spent four consecutive weeks at Number 1.
London-born singer Eliza Rose jumps up fifteen places to #5 with the fierce “B.O.T.A.”. The anthem is a hit across the UK, becoming the first single by a female DJ to top the Official UK Singles Chart in 22 years, since Sonique’s “It Feels So Good” in 2002. Success is slowly spreading to Europe, where it slow but surely climbs the Top 40s. The song samples the LL w/ Love RC mix of "Let the Beat Hit 'Em" by Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam and its success is further supported by TikTok. The music video is also something else, being a beautiful homage to the LGBTQ+ community.
Further down, Rex Orange County rebounds to #11 with “Threat”, while Burna Boy continues to scale the Top 40 with the slow-burner “Last, Last”, reaching a new peak at #13 this week. Newcomer Rema jumps up eight places to #15 with the infectious “Calm Down”. He is supported by a new remix featuring Selena Gomez. Nicki Minaj lands the Top 20 with her newest single “Super Freaky Girl”, which is now lining up to be her biggest mainstream solo hit in a while. Joel Corry & Becky Hill represent UK Dance this week with “History”, which peaks at #20 this week.
Further down, Dutch singers-and-couple Suzan & Freek earn the top new entry of the week with “Kwijt” at #26. The hitmaking duo recently announced their engagement. Suzan & Freek have been scoring hits since 2019’s breakout song “Als Het Avond Is” [#2]. Success continued with an appearance on De Beste Zangers van Nederland and the Number 1-single “Blauwe Dag”. Earlier this year, Suzan & Freek scored their sixth consecutive Top 10-hit with “Honderd Keer” [#6]. The new follow-up “Kwijt” is lovely post-summer song, which music video was shot by the duo themselves during a nice holiday in Italy.
The Gorillaz, Tame Impala and Bootie Brown debut at #33 with the electric “New Gold”. The single is The Gorillaz their first Top 40-entry since 2006’s “Dirty Harry”. They previously scored worldwide hits with “Feel Good Inc.” and, my personal favourite, “Dare”. They are supported by the hypnotizing Tame Impala, who previously scored big with the Top 10-hits “The Less I Know The Better” [#7] and “Lost In Yesterday” [#10]. The Pharcyde’s rapper Bootie Brown makes his chart debut. Brazilian DJ Alok enters at #38 with “Deep Down”, which is fronted by Elle Eyre.

Hi there! Nice to see "B.O.T.A." in the top 5, as well as the big gain for "Super Freaky Girl", new peaks for "Last Last", "Calm Down" and especially "History" and the debuts for "New Gold" and "Deep Down".
Great chart, take care!
