Hero secures the Number 1-position for a second week

Hero celebrates a second week at Number 1 with Toen Ik Je Zag. Hero is the pseudonym of Dutch actor-singer Antonie Kamerling. His single is achieving great success in the Netherlands, as the hit became a chart-topper in the Dutch Top 40. On this list, Hero faces competition from the Kelly Family and their song Fell in Love with an Alien.

Gary Barlow scores his second Top 10-entry with Love Won’t Wait. The English singer was a member of the massive boy group Take That, with whom he scored big hits such as Back For Good and How Deep Is Your Love. Also counting his endeavors with Take That, this is Barlow his sixth Top 10-entry. Gary Barlow previously entered the Top 10 independently with Forever Love, which peaked at Number 2 and was certified Gold. His newest entrance peaks at Number 7 this week.

Ginuwine rides into the Top 10 with Pony, scoring his first Top 10-entry. Ginuwine was a member of Swing Mob, a R&B/hip hop collective housing successful artists. As a solo-artist, Ginuwine has released a number of multi-platinum and platinum-selling albums and singles. In the United Kingdom, Pony has already became a big hit, slowly conquering the rest of the globe as well. On this list, Ginuwine peaks at Number 9.

Daft Punk score their first Top 10-entry. Daft Punk might sound rightfully unknown, as the duo is an up-and-coming phenomenon. The French electronic-duo formed in Paris and signed to Virgin Records in 1996, releasing their first single Da Funk. Their newest effort, Around the World, is becoming their first ever hit, scoring successes around the world. Daft Punk always appears masked, never revealing their faces. The mysterious duo peaks at Number 10 this week with Around the World.

Eternal score the highest debut of the week. The British girl group has entered the list many times before, racking up seven Top 40-hits. Their biggest singles include the Top 10-hits Baby I… and Someday, which coincidentally both peaked at Number 10. Eternal enter the list with the catchy I Wanna Be the Only One featuring BeBe Winans, for whom this is his debut on the list entirely. The newest single is one of Eternal’s biggest entrances to date, possibly becoming their third Top 10-entry next week.

Texas receives a Platinum Certification for the hit Say What You Want. The single became the Scottish group’s breakthrough single on this list and went on to peak at Number 2 for three consecutive weeks. It is currently the sixth best-scoring single of 1997. White Town also receives a Platinum Certification for Your Woman. The hit also peaked at Number 2 and was the British act’s debut on this list. The song is currently the seventh best-scoring single of 1997.
