For a small second, it looked like Olivia Rodrigo’s “drop dead” would.. well… drop dead! On this list that is. Despite it debuting at #1 on both the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Charts, Olivia her newest lead single had to settle for second place in its first week, and after that, it dropped out of the Top 5 quite quickly. Her previous lead singles “Drivers License” and “Vampire” were genre-defining pop hits that peaked at Number 1 and were at least certified platinum, yet “drop dead” was shaping up to become Olivia’s first big release to underperform. But, give it some time, and this week, Olivia lifts to Number 1 with “drop dead” for the first time. She only barely manages to dethrone Dutch duo Roxy Dekker & Kevin, who spent two weeks atop my list with “Jij Hebt Mij”. Olivia Rodrigo now earns her fourth Number 1-hit to date. It joins the two lead singles mentioned before, and the multi-platinum hit “Good 4 U” off her debut album. She ranks as one of the most-successful Disney-alumna of all time, joining her peer Sabrina Carpenter, and legacy artists such as Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato and Hillary Duff.
Though Harry Styles is living it up in Amsterdam right now on his sold-out Together, Together tour – it’s his ex-bandmate Niall Horan who’s new in the Top 10 this week with his soft “Dinner Party” up at #10. Not at all similar to Harry Styles’s dance synths, Niall’s “Dinner Party” is a soft pop hit that does not intend to thrill. It explores falling in love during a dinner party, playing silly games, and being just a nice guy, like Niall! While Harry Styles practically has a membership to this Top 10 at this point, it’s been a long while since we’ve last seen Niall Horan this high up. In 2016, his debut song “This Town” was an immediate hit following One Direction’s break-up, and all three next singles managed to land in the Top 10, with “Slow Hands” even reaching #1. But as promotion for his sophomore solo album kicked off, most material failed to even crack the Top 20. Some slow-burners proved that Niall does have pop sensibilities, and above all, a devoted fanbase that will always keep Niall in the conversation and his live shows sold out. “Dinner Party” happily welcomes Niall back, though it is not likely this will lead to a Niall Horan-renaissance anytime soon.
Gracie Abrams is back with the lead single of her new upcoming album: “Hit the Wall”. Witten along Aaron Dessner, Gracie Abrams explores well-trotted themes of being at the end of your wits in a long relationship. Gracie Abrams broke through big time in 2024 when “I Love You, I’m Sorry” went viral on TikTok. Though she already enjoyed streaming success beforehand, that song made Gracie a rising star and gave her entry to the Top 3. The next “That’s So True” proved that Gracie Abrams was not a one-off star, shooting all the way to Number 1, surpassing her previous hit’s success across all boards. Last year was a slower year for the singer – only collaborating with Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco on their duet album – though she did appear on Glastonbury Festival 2025 and BST Hyde Park 2025. “Hit the Wall” already sticks at landing at #13 this week, becoming the highest new entry. It marks her fifth Top 40-hit to date. With its parent album Daughter From Hell coming soon, perhaps this nepo hit baby will bag more soon.
Dutch rapper Gotu Jim recruits hitmaker Antoon on the high-energy “Vergeten” new at #23. We have not met Gotu Jim in the Top 40 yet, though he is already an established indie rapper that played at big festivals across The Netherlands. Further down, Dutch folk singer Samuel Welten rids himself of his one-hit-wonder status following “Echte Liefde is Te Koop”, as his new hit “De Leeuw Komt Eraan” at #26. It’s the Dutch theme song for the upcoming World Cup. Newcomer Malcolm Todd channels his best Dominic Fike on “Earrings”, the final new entry at #36.
