Pommelien Thijs’s “Atlas” becomes the longest-running Number 1 of 2025 so far

With five weeks and counting, Pommelien Thijs’s “Atlas” becomes the longest-running Number 1-hit of 2025 so far. Pommelien Thijs first broke through in 2019 as the lead actress on the musical tv-series #LikeMe which was very popular amongst Belgian youths. She then collaborated with Dutch singer Jaap Reesema on “Nu Wij Niet Meer Praten” in 2020, which became the Christmas Number 1 on here. Following numerous single releases, her musical breakout came with her debut album Per Ongeluk which became a massive success. It spawned the platinum-certified smash hit “Erop of Eronder” and kickstarted Pommelien Thijs her string of Top 40-hits. Just this year, she earned her second Number 1-single with “Het Midden” featuring Dutch singer-songwriter MEAU. Meanwhile, she also gained critical acclaim on Netflix’s Knokke Off. Her third Number 1-single “Atlas” now claims a fifth week leading the list. It surpasses Lady Gaga her “Abracadabra” as the longest-running chart-topper of 2025 so far. Competition is getting tougher though, as Dutch sorority U.V.S.V. / N.V.V.S.U. seek to claim the crown from Pommelien Thijs at #2. Sabrina Carpenter also joins the battle with “Busy Woman” up at #3.

Moving up an impressive seven places, PinkPantheress joins the Top 10 with her new song “Tonight” at #9. The up-tempo dance-pop song is the lead single for the British singer’s upcoming second album, titled Fancy That. It samples orchestral arrangements and strings from Panic! at the Disco's song "Do You Know What I'm Seeing”. It was accompanied by an amazing music video inspired by Bridgerton and the Regency era. As “Tonight” settles at #9 this week, PinkPantheress claims her second Top 10-hit. After she won the BBC’s Sound of… Poll in 2022, PinkPantheress broke out into the mainstream in 2023 with “Boy’s a Liar” featuring viral rapper Ice Spice. It peaked at Number 1 for three weeks on here and finished as one of that year’s biggest hits. More Top 40-entries followed, including a sleeper hit with “Nice To Meet You” featuring Central Cee and a Noughties-fuelled contribution to the Barbie Soundtrack.

TikTok has an undeniable influence on the modern pop landscape. Thanks to its accessibility, smaller unknown artists or underrepresented genres can suddenly grow viral and open new doors worldwide – with Afrobeats perhaps being the strongest example. Nigerian singer Rema took the genre to dizzying new heights with “Calm Down” in 2022, becoming the best-selling global hit of 2023 with more than 2 billion streams. The breakthrough of more Afrobeats artists followed, including Tyla, Ayra Starr and King Promise. This week, South-African-German recording star WizTheMc joins that line-up with the summer-infused “Show Me Love” at #23, earning the highest debut of the week. He has been making music for several years now and has toured through Europe with the likes of A$AP Rocky and Burna Boy. He is joined by the Berlin-based DJ collective Bees & Honey and Afrobeats’ biggest global star Tyla. The latter broke through in 2023 with the sensual “Water”, peaking at #2 on my personal chart – the highest-peaking Afrobeats song yet. With the follow-ups “Jump” and “Push 2 Start” reaching the Top 10 as well, Tyla proved that she is not a one-hit-wonder. With “Show Me Love” its top new entry, WizTheMc earns his well-deserved Top 40-debut, while Tyla secures her sixth.

Further down, Dutch-Moluccan singer Zoë Tauran continues to tease her upcoming second album with “Status Ingewikkeld” at #36. Ever since her breakthrough in 2022 with “Solo”, the 28-year-old singer has been steadily scoring Top 40-hits, mainly in collaboration with Dutch hip hop artists. Her newest album is set to include “Monster”, which peaked at #1 for one week and ranks as Zoë Tauran her best-performing release to date. Meanwhile, Jennie proves she’s Blackpink’s most successful solo star on my chart as she lines up her fourth solo Top 40-hit with the self-referential “Like JENNIE” at #39. It’s taken from her debut solo album Ruby, which previously spawned the Top 20-hits “Handlebars” with Dua Lipa and “Mantra”.
