Robbie Williams fights off Madonna and Shania Twain for his second Number 1-hit; Céline Dion goes 4 x Platinum

Robbie Williams climbs to his second Number 1-single on this list with Let Me Entertain You. It has been thirty-three weeks since a male act has graced the top position, as only female acts peaked above the list since 10 October 1997. The last male act to crown the list was Elton John with Candle In The Wind ’97. Robbie Williams puts an end to the female reign with the insanely catchy Let Me Entertain You. He previously topped the charts with his debut single as a soloist Freedom, which was released midway 1996. As a member of Take That, he scored a big Number 1-hit with Back For Good in 1995. Robbie Williams fights off strong competition from Madonna and Shania Twain, but ultimately is the strongest contender this week.

Boyzone step into the Top 10 with All That I Need. This is the boys’ ninth Top 10-entry on this list, extending their record as the boy group with the most Top 10-hits. Previous successes are Words and A Different Beat, which both peaked at Number 3. There are a few feats they have yet to accomplish, including scoring a Number 1-hit and earning a Platinum Certification. They are, nonetheless, one of the most successful boy groups ever on this list. This week, All That I Need peaks at Number 10.

Acda en De Munnik score the highest debut of the week. As the adult contemporary-music in the Netherlands becomes more and more successful due to the likes of BLØF, other Dutch acts with the similar music style become popular. Acda en De Munnik is the latest additional to the adult contemporary-genre, as they make a big debut with Niet of Nooit Geweest. The lovely song is rapidly climbing the Dutch charts, becoming a nationwide hit. On this list, Niet of Nooit Geweest is already scaling the charts as well, entering at Number 19 this week.

Janet Jackson receives a  2 x Platinum Certification for her Number 1-hit Together Again. The single spent two consecutive weeks above the list, fighting off competition from Robbie Williams and the Spice Girls. Together Again became Janet Jackson her breakthrough on this list and made her additional album “The Red Rope” a big success as well. As of this week, the single has amassed over 90,000 points.

As BLØF has recently released their newest single Dansen Aan Zee, the group is becoming a huge national success. The group’s first single also remains to be a big seller, as BLØF their first single Liefs Uit Londen receives a Platinum Certification this week. The single peaked at Number 2 for two consecutive weeks, only behind How Do I Live by LeAnn Rimes. Their additional album “Helder” is also becoming a hit on the Dutch charts. As of this week, BLØF their debut single has amassed over 65,000 points.

Céline Dion receives a 4 x Platinum Certification for her Number 1-hit My Heart Will Go On. The single became the French-Canadian songstress her fifth single to top the charts, spending nine consecutive weeks above the list. The single serves as the main theme of the blockbuster film “Titanic”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Aided by the film’s huge success, My Heart Will Go On became one of Céline Dion her biggest hits ever, selling millions across the globe. As of this week, the single has amassed over 120,000 points on this list. This is Céline Dion her second single to receive 4 x Platinum Certification, following Think Twice released in July 1994.
