Tate McRae pulls up to second place, but Bad Bunny earns his second Number 1-hit in a close race to the top

In an unexpectedly close race for Number 1, Bad Bunny manages to claim his second Number 1-hit to date with the viral “DtMF”. He rose to prominence in the mid-2010s with a string of Spanish hits, after which he broke into the mainstream in collaboration with Cardi B on his first chart-topper “I Like It” in 2018. He has been an American chart mainstay ever since, even being credited as the "King of Latin Trap". Bad Bunny is credited with helping Spanish-language rap music achieve mainstream popularity in the worldwide market. He also holds the most-streamed album on Spotify ever with his album Un Verano Sin Ti. Some big hits on my personal chart include “La Noche De Anoche” with Rosalía and a solo Top 10-hit with “Where She Goes”. The new plenta-inspired “DtMF” pushes Bad Bunny to new solo heights across the globe, also including this small chart. It is the first Spanish Number 1-hit since Shakira’s diss track “Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53” from 2023.

If it wasn’t for Bad Bunny, however, pop protegee Tate McRae would have pulled up into the leading position with “Sports Car”, which soars up a whopping nineteen places to #2. It has been released as the third single off her upcoming album So Close to What. It was preceded by the Top 10-singles “It’s Ok I’m Ok” [#9] and “2 Hands” [#4], continuing Tate McRae’s steady string of hit singles. “Sports Car” is in the running of becoming the Canadian pop star her second ever Number 1-hit, only preceded by 2021’s career-defining “Greedy”, which shot straight to the top upon release. It has dictated McRae’s sound and style ever since – a Nelly Furtado-esque hitmaker with Britney’s moves. “Sports Car” also shares many similarities with “Greedy”; both were extensively teased on TikTok before release and were co-written by OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder. “Sports Car” has to settle for second place for now, but already ranks as her second-highest peak to date. It also already lines itself up as the biggest hit off So Close to What.

Lady Gaga her comeback Mayhem continues to take shape, as “Abracadabra” scores the highest debut of the week at #24. Featuring an interpolation of "Spellbound" by Siouxsie and the Banshees, the new Gaga-song was first teased during a commercial break at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, and was later released across the internet. It features Gaga in top form, echoing back to her heyday in the early 2010s with “Born This Way” or “Judas”. It was preceded by the lead single “Disease” – a respectable Top 20-entry – and the double platinum Number 1-hit “Die With a Smile” alongside Bruno Mars. The new “Abracadabra” earns Lady Gaga her twenty-fifth Top 40-entry to date; quite the accomplishment as the single was released mid-week.

Further down, Bruno Mars returns with another collaboration, this time with rapper Sexxy Red on the raunchy “Fat Juicy & Wet” at #31. His new era, so far, have only been very distinct and different duets with other big artists, such as the pre-mentioned “Die With a Smile” with Lady Gaga or the upbeat hit “APT.” with Rosé. “Fat Juicy & Wet” is Bruno Mars at his most explicit yet, featuring the catchy raps of Sexxy Red. South-Korean singer Jennie rounds out the new entries with “Love Hangover” featuring Dominic Fike at #35. It is the second single from her upcoming solo debut amidst Blackpink their solo endeavours. Jennie is the second Blackpink-singer to have a solo charting song following Lisa. Jennie is joined by Dominic Fike, who we best recognize from his 2019-Number 1 “3 Nights”.
