The Sugababes score their fifth Number 1-hit with “Red Dress”, although Mutya Buena’s departure earlier last year

The Sugababes score their fifth Number 1 with “Red Dress”, their first ever chart-topper not feature vocals from founding member Mutya Buena. The singer disclosed she left the group because of personal issues and she wishes to remain friends with the other members. Mutya is replaced by Amelle Berrabah. “Red Dress” knocks Sean Paul his “Temperature” off the top spot, which only spent one week holding the crown. The Sugababes also fight off competition by Corinne Bailey Rae and her breakout hit “Put Your Records On”.

Mary J. Blige makes a Top 10-debut with her newest single “One” featuring rock band U2. Originally, “One” was a song solely by U2 and was featured on their 1991-album Achtung Baby. It was already a hit back in its heyday, but has been re-experiencing success following a live performance by Mary J. & U2 on stage at their New York gig in 2005. The song was then recorded featuring Blige on lead vocals, with Bono supplying additional vocals and the band performing the music. “One” debuts at Number 8 today, becoming Mary J. Blige her first Top 10-entry on this chart. It is U2 their second Top 10-single.

At Number 9, Dutch singer and Idols-winner Raffaëla earns her first Top 10-entry with the song that earned her first place: “Right Here, Right Now”.  Raffaëla  is the third winner of Idols and beat Floortje Smit in a close race. Raffaëla  her winning song was originally sung by Agnes Carlsson, the winner of Sweden’s version of Idols. Since its release and live performance during the finale of Idols, the song became a runaway hit, topping the Dutch Top 40 and Dutch Top 100.

Outside of Mary J. Blige her top debut, three other songs make their debut. At Number 17, English DJ formation The Source make their first entry with “You Got The Love”, a remix of Candi Staton her 1986-hit. The song also features credited vocals from the original singer. At Number 24, Dutch girl group Treble makes its return with “Amambanda”, the Dutch entry for the Eurovision Song Contest this year. They previously scored a small hit with “Ramaganana” in 2004. At Number 34, Dutch rapping duo Lange Frans & Baas B debut with “Ik Wacht Al Zo Lang”. It follows the previous succeses of “Het Land Van…” and “Zinloos”.
