Toy-Box becomes the first Danish act to land Number 1 since Whigfield’s “Think of You” in July 1995

Toy-Box climb towards their first ever Number 1-hit with the undeniably catchy Tarzan & Jane. The single marks the first chart-topper by a Danish artist since Whigfield graced the list in 1995. She scored two Number 1s with Saturday Night and Think of You. Toy-Box prove that Denmark can still deliver some big hits. The single is widely aided by the success of Disney’s box-office sensation “Tarzan”. Toy-Box dethrones When You’re Gone by Bryan Adams and Melanie C, who spent three weeks above the charts.

2Pac enters the Top 10 with his post-humous single Changes. The song is featured on his “Best Hits”-album, a compilation of all his previous successes. On this list, 2Pac has had his fair share of hits, starting with California Love. The post-humous hits I Wonder If Heaven Got a Ghetto and Do For Love followed. This week, 2Pac scores his third Top 10-entry with Changes. This makes 2Pac one of the most successful rappers of all time to enter this list.

S Club 7 steps into the Top 10 with Bring It All Back. The feel-good song follows the trend of extremely happy British music, much like the hits of Steps, Billie Piper and B*Witched. S Club 7 is a mixed club managed by Simon Fuller, the man behind the success of the Spice Girls. Their debut single Bring It All Back is already an international hit. On this list, the hit peaks at Number 10 and marks S Club 7 their first ever Top 10-entry.

Sasha scores the highest debut of the week. Sasha is a new German singer-songwriter who is currently having his international breakthrough with If You Believe. Sasha is very reminiscent of the current pop boys, such as Robbie Williams and Ronan Keating. On this list, Germany has produced some big hits, including the chart-toppers Captain Jack by Captain Jack, and Be My Lover by La Bouche. This week, Sasha debuts at Number 17 with If You Believe.

Billie Piper receives a Gold Certification for She Wants You. The British teen singer was one last year’s breakthrough artists, scoring a Number 1-hit with Because We Want To. She then scored a successful album with “Honey To the B” and a second Top 10-single with the undeniably catchy Girlfriend. Billie Piper is already a massive pop star in the United Kingdom and other English-speaking countries. As of this week, She Wants You becomes her third Gold-certified release with over 40,000 points.

1998 was a tough year for Spice Girls fans. Geri Halliwell left the group and it was unsure if the girls would continue without the beloved Ginger Spice. Luckily, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Victoria Adams and Melanie Chisholm decided to release on last single for the fans. This was Goodbye, which went on to become another million-selling hit across the globe. On this list, the single became the girls’ tenth Number 1-hit and spent seven consecutive weeks above the charts. The single is, so far, the best-scoring single of 1999. As of this week, Goodbye scored 90,000 points, certifying the chart-topper 2 x Platinum. All singles released by the Spice Girls on this list have now been certified at least 2 x Platinum.
