Chart

Braintree Top 40

Lots of shake-ups this week on the Braintree Top 40 due to Holiday Cheer and Year-End Charts gearing up for the end of the year.  The biggest shakeup of course, is the new #1!  After a record four weeks at #1, Clean Bandit’s “I Miss You” featuring Julia Michaels reluctantly relinquishes the top spot to Sufjan Stevens and his romantic ode from Call Me By Your Name, “Mystery of Love.”  In fact, the Call Me By Your Name soundtrack continues to dominate the chart as Bandolero’s “Paris Latino” jumps into the top five.  Daina makes sure Christmas is accounted for as she gets both “Underneath the Tree” by Kelly Clarkson and “Ho Ho Ho” by Sia into the top ten at #7 and #8 respectively.

After months of hibernation, Emm!e has FINALLY thrown the shackles of #monasticlife to the floor and added to this week’s chart.  And boy, did she ever!  Emm!e allowed “Lights Down Low” to soar into the top five at #5 as well as giving Taylor Swift seven entries with “Look What You Made Me Do” leading the charge at #14.  Let’s hope she doesn’t leave as quickly as she came as Braintree appreciates her distinct flavor she brings to the chart.

Daina, the Queen of Holiday Cheer, had immense amount of influence this week as she immersed herself in Christmas music with two more weeks to go until the big day.  Aside from Kelly Clarkson and Sia in the top ten, she (with some help from Celina and Emily) also brings “Last Christmas,” “Happy Xmas (War Is Over),” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” to the chart at #37, #38, and #40 respectively.  With this much Christmas music on the chart already, just think of what it’ll look like by Christmas Day!  It’s interesting to note that while “All I Want for Christmas Is You” was the first holiday song to chart on the Braintree Top 40, it only managed a slight increase this week to #27 with three other holiday songs surpassing it.

While Emily assisted Daina in pouring mass amounts of holiday fervor on the chart, she also managed to bring yet another Dua Lipa track to the forefront as her duet with Martin Garrix, “Scared to Be Lonely,” charts at #33.  While not meant to be a Christmas song, it certainly has a wintry tone as it delves into the theme of loneliness, which is always prevalent around the holidays.

For some reason, Josh could not stop listening to Sonny & Cher’s “I Got You Babe” after hearing it on an old episode of Will & Grace this week as the 1965 US #1 song debuts at #39.

Year-end lists added to the fun this week as both “Stay” by Zedd & Alessia Cara and “Second 2 None” by Mura Masa featuring Christine and the Queens both return to the chart after a long absence, re-entering at #30 and #32 respectively.  “No Vacancy,” or as OneRepublic singer, Ryan Tedder, sings, “No Vay-KAHN-zee” debuts onto the chart at #31 after being a spring hit in Braintree.

On tap for next week is the release of two new Camila Cabello tracks.  Can they match the success of previous single, “Havana,” or will it be a flop like the others?  Charli XCX is also dropping a star-studded mixtape entitled POP2 at midnight which is sure to make waves on the next chart.  Will “Mystery of Love” be able to maintain the top spot or is Christmas here to steal it away for the season?  Find out next week!
