Chart

Braintree Top 40

This week started out as the Battle of the Brits between the reigning champ and the latest from Little Mix, but in the end, “I Miss You” extends its record-breaking stay at #1 while “Is Your Love Enough?” has to settle for a #2 debut.  It’s not all bad for the British girl group as this single becomes their highest-charting one yet, besting the peak of #15 that both “Touch” and “Power” achieved this September and November, respectively.

“Havana” retreats to #3, being saved from a larger drop by the new Spanglish remix with Daddy Yankee.  Debuting at #4 is “Mystery of Love” by Sufjan Stevens, which is featured on the Call Me By Your Name Soundtrack.  “Paris Latino” by Bandolero is another standout from the film’s soundtrack and debuts at #32.  While the film hasn’t yet been released in the Boston area, both the book and this original song have already caught the interest of Josh.

Both “Tip Toe” and “What Lovers Do” join the top 10 at #9 and #10 for the first time with “Tip Toe” being the only song to get spins from each participating member.  Jason Derulo’s previous single, “If I’m Lucky” just barely stays on the chart at #39.

Following the release of their first EP in ten years, aptly titled Ten Years, Aly & AJ find themselves with the most entries this week with all 4 tracks making the Braintree Top 40.  “I Know” leads the pack as the second single hits its #11 peak again after falling to #12 last week.

I know I talked Emm!e up a lot last week saying she was going to seek vengeance on the Braintree Top 40 after not reporting her plays for multiple weeks.  Unfortunately, Emm!e just cannot leave the #monasticlife and willingly gave up music for the week.  Will she ever come back?  One never knows with Emm!e and that’s how she likes it.

Surprisingly, Daina has become to first one to switch exclusively to holiday music this year and in doing so, allows Mariah Carey her first chart entry in Braintree!  Her holiday classic “All I Want for Christmas Is You” enters the chart at #34.  While only one made the chart this week, it’s clear that more are on their way as we get closer to Christmas.

Aside from helping propel Jason Derulo and Maroon 5 to the top ten, Celina also helped MAX debut at #31 with “Lights Down Low.”  While the song has been out for a while, it is just recently gaining traction in Braintree.  I’m sure once Emily latches onto this track, it will find a top 20 peak as this is right up her alley.

Speaking of Emily, she once again gave her gurl Dua Lipa the boost she needed to jump back into the top ten at #6 with “New Rules.”  She also chose to stick with what she knows and push Little Mix’s “Power” to #18 instead of giving their new release a try.  Although it didn’t end up charting, Emily spun Ellie Goulding’s album Delirium in its entirety this week, which is something everyone should be doing this time of year.

The last notable debut of the week is Six60’s “Don’t Give It Up” coming in at #20.  The band has numerous hits in their native New Zealand but has been virtually unheard of in Braintree until now.

I bet you thought you missed the worst of the Taylor Swift storm and it was all over, right?  Think again.  Taylor Swift’s reputation will officially be released to Spotify at midnight and is sure to gain overwhelming support from everyone except Daina.  Ed Sheeran is releasing a remix of his current single, “Perfect,” with Beyoncé, which is sure to be crappy as the song does not need her getting the runs all over it.  The only other big release next week is Louis Tomlinson, who releases the third single, “Miss You,” off his new album.  Can “I Miss You” defy the odds and hit a fifth week at #1 or will one of these debuts be able to dethrone the champ?  Find out next week!
