We have a #1 debut as Niall Horan and Maren Morris come out of nowhere with "Seeing Blind". This is Niall Horan's 1st #1 and Maren Morris's 2nd after "The Middle". This is thanks to Celina, who has moved on from James Arthur to Niall Horan as her Artist of the Week. Bebe Rexha gets her 3rd top five as "Self Control" jumps 3 spots to #5. Christine and the Queens hits the top ten for the first time with "Doesn't matter (voleur de soleil)" after charting with "Girlfriend (feat. Dam-Funk)" and "Second 2 None" with Mura Masa. Sigrid also gets her 2nd top ten after "Strangers" with "Schedules".
A notable debut is Demi Lovato's "Sober," which appears on the chart at #38 due to her drug overdose this week. The song, which was released last month, describes her relapse and fall from sobriety after 6 years clean. David Guetta and Anne-Marie just barely make the chart after less than 24 hours with "Don't Leave Me Alone" at #39. Kylie Minogue enters at #28 with "Love at First Sight" for no reason at all. Zedd's new single, "Happy Now," comes in at #37. Can it duplicate the success of "The Middle" and jump to #1? We'll have to see if the girls latch onto it like the other.
Daina, Catie, and Sara all failed to influence the chart this week while Breagh only added a play to a few songs such as "One Kiss" and "I'll Be There". Even though she's across the Atlantic getting engaged, Emm!e was still able to infuence the charts as "Nobody Compares to You" tumbles from #4 to #29. As stated earlier, Celina was on a Niall Horan kick, resulting in a new #1. She also got "Slow Hands" to re-enter the chart and gain a new peak of #15. Niall Horan becomes the first Irish artist to hit #1 in Braintree. And here I thought B*Witched's comeback single would be the first. Emily contributed a lot of plays to most of the chart as she listened to our Spotify playlist. She was also the one responsible for "Happy Now" debuting. Girl loves her Zedd.
Next week, we see new Charli XCX, The Chainsmokers, and Tinashe as well as the comeback single from Swedish pop superstar, Robyn. Can she debut at #1 like Niall just did or will Years & Years return to the top spot. Maybe Bebe Rexha will finally get her first #1! We'll find out next week on the Braintree Top 40.
Here is this week's Bubbling Under:
1. Gloria Gaynor - I Will Survive
2. Niall Horan - This Town
3. Lost Kings - Stuck (feat. Tove Styrke)
4. Niall Horan - On the Loose
5. James Arthur - Can I Be Him
