Welcome to a very special edition of the Braintree Top 40! This is the 52nd week of the chart's existence, which means the Braintree Top 40 is officially turning a year old! To celebrate, I've made the Braintree Top 100 of ALL TIME playlist for all to enjoy as well and we'll take a look back at the first fear a little later. First, let's delve into the current week. Celina finally took her foot off the gas as "Seeing Blind" falls to #2 while "No Brainer" jumps to the top spot. This is Justin Bieber's 2nd #1 after "Friends" peaked almost exactly a year ago. The only newbie in the top ten is Jonas Blue and Jack & Jack's "Rise," which sees a new peak of #10, thanks to Celina and Emily.
We see "No Roots" rebound to #13 after peaking at #3 just a month ago. Can it re-enter the top ten and challenge for the top spot? It all depends on whether Daina gets back on board with listening to music. Our top debut is Charli XCX's "Girls Night Out," which jumps from #3 on last week's Bubbling Under to #19. Other notable debuts include "I Wouldn't Know" by Swedish singer Benjamin Ingrosso at #36 and 5 Seconds of Summer's 3rd chart appearance with "Lie to Me" at #40.
Emm!e is too busy itching her hands, feet, and mouth to listen to music; Daina's commute is now from her bed to the kitchen table, which means no music; and Sara's taste is just too eclectic for Braintree, unfortunately. Catie's only contribution is Kanye West's re-entry with "Ghost Town" at #35. Breagh keeps "I'll Be There" in the top 5 as well as getting Vampire Weekend to debut their 2nd chart entry with "Cousins" at #30. Celina continued her obsession with Niall Horan as she got him yet another chart entry with "This Town" at #33. Her and Emily also spun the Braintree Top 40 playlist like nobody's business, helping out most of last week's songs.
Now, it's time to take a look at the first year of the Braintree Top 40. Here are the top 5 BIGGEST songs of the chart so far:
1. Dua Lipa - IDGAF
2. Dua Lipa - New Rules
3. Zedd - The Middle (feat. Maren Morris & Grey)
4. Jess Glynne - I'll Be There
5. Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss
Now first things first, Dua Lipa has THREE of the top 5, so she's clearly the biggest artist of the past year here in Braintree. While "IDGAF" is #1, "New Rules" has the most weeks on the chart at 34 weeks. Although Kesha doesn't appear in the top ten, she does hold the title of both Most Top Tens and Most Top 5s with 9 and 5, respectively. Now let's take a look at each person's top song of the past year:
Josh - Jess Glynne - I'll Be There
Emm!e - Kendrick Lamar - HUMBLE. (someone's been hitting the gym!)
Daina - Dolly Parton - Jolene (nearly all of which came the week it blocked "Look What You Made Me Do" from debuting at #1)
Celina - Niall Horan - Seeing Blind (feat. Maren Morris) [which she only started listening to 3 weeks ago...]
Emily - Zedd - The Middle (feat. Maren Morris & Grey)
Breagh - Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa - One Kiss (Breagh Lipa's entire top 3 is Dua Lipa)
Catie - Kanye West - Ghost Town
Sara - A$AP Ferg - Plain Jane (with just 10 plays lol)
Next week, we could see the surprise release of Nicki Minaj's new album, Queen! Let's hope that happens because she will surely shake up the chart, especially if Daina gets her hands on it. We also see new singles from Troye Sivan and Broods. Now, if Nicki Minaj does release her album, will she finally get her first #1 or will "No Brainer" stay put? Let's not count out "Seeing Blind" either, especially if Celina is in one of her Niall Horan moods (which is all the time, lbr). Thank you everyone for being part of the Braintree Top 40 for an entire year and exploring the top songs from our little hometown!
Here is this week's Bubbling Under:
1. Robyn - MIssing U
2. Vampire Weekend - A-Punk
3. Mura Masa - Complicated (feat Nao)
4. The Killers - The Man
5. Simon & Garfunkel - Keep the Customer Satisfied
