Chart

James' Top 40 - July 15, 2015

New #1

Notes:

  • Until the Ribbon Breaks notch their second career #1 with "Pressure" jumping 3-1 for its first week atop. This has the potential to stay there for a little while longer as no other #1 contender is within reach ("A Taste of Silver" and "My Type" are the only others). This also marks Mr. MFN eXquire's first #1 on his first chart entry, despite not being officially credited. The album version and his remix version are combined, and both of them are actually tied with plays at 48. I might just leave it as Until the Ribbon Breaks for the credit, but you'll find out next week. "A Taste of Silver" also stays at #2, and "Perspective" reenters the Top 10, moving 12-8. It'll look to best its #7 peak next week.
  • "Cheyenne" climbs into the Top 5, going 6-5 for a new peak. This one has really slowed down, but it still looks like it could hit the top, but it might take awhile longer. This might get passed up next week (unless the 3 above it fall), but this one should have some longevity.
  • Cold War Kids continue to keep going, as "Thunder Hearts" rockets into the Top 10, going 11-6 for a new peak. This marks 5 straight Top 10 entries for Cold War Kids to start off their chart career, and they'll look to make it 5 straight Top 5 entries next week, and it looks like it could do it. This could be a surprise challenger for #1, but not for a little while. This actually benefitted a lot from me digging deep into their discography this week, as I listened to all their albums and EPs and I plan on buying them too. These guys are a frontrunner for Artist of the Year at the awards this year, though they're still a long ways behind Until the Ribbon Breaks, who no one will likely catch up to.
  • "Shut Up and Dance" falls from the Top 10 for the first time in its 45th week on the chart. This debuted way back in September at #10, and never looked back until now. This might start to get shot, but it should stick for awhile longer.
  • Robin Thicke hops into the Top 20 with "Morning Sun" going 24-16 for a new peak. This one is red hot, but it should fall back down to earth in the next week or so. With that said though, this has a bright future ahead of it.
  • The Weeknd has himself a huge week, as "Can't Feel My Face" looks to be in the midst of a huge breakout as it climbs 33-27 for a new peak. He also scores a debut with "The Hills" at #28. "The Hills" really clicked with me this week, and now this one is looking at a huge future. Both could see huge jumps next week.
  • "Cut the Cord" jumps 34-29 this week for a new peak. This one should see a nice steady climb, and could potentially nail the Top 10. Right now, it's starting off a bit slow, but it is far from over.
  • Dirty Heads make their chart debut with "End of the World" coming in at #30. This one was a surprise, as this did not start to get going until Monday night. This put up a 24 play debut in just 2 days. With a full week under its belt next week, this one is gearing up for a verrrrry big jump. I really fell in love with this, and this has #1 written all over it at this moment. Dirty Heads saw the On the Rise chart quite a bit last year, with "My Sweet Summer", "Franco Eyed", and "Medusa".
  • "Shots" takes a huge hit, as it flounders 21-33 this week. This was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, as everyone wanted to move up (and most couldn't actually). The bottom half of the chart is very congested right now, and songs might have their stays cut short. This one should be able to stick around longer, but how much longer is in question as there are some songs looking to debut (and re-enter) next week.
  • Two more debuts occur at the bottom of the chart, as "Locked Away" and "Nothin' Left" debut at the #38 and #40 spots this week. Both of them actually have a pretty bright future, but the latter could be big. It's only a 2 minute track and has a good amount of replay value, so it could look at an easy ride. "Nothin' Left" could potentially kill off "Virgins" (32-35), but that wasn't looking it would be a chart killer in the beginning anyways.
  • We see our first recurrent song this week, as "All Over" falls into recurrency after a downfall these past few weeks. "Go For It" looks to be coming into the chart next week to cover CRUISR's back.
