Chart

James' Top 40 - July 22, 2015

Notes:

  • "Pressure" holds the top spot for a second week this week. Its hold on the top is a little iffy though, as there are some challengers for #1 next week, and they'll be looking to dethrone this.
  • Cold War Kids extend their Top 5 streak to 5 songs in a row now, as "Thunderhearts" (condensed to one word according to iTunes) climbs 6-3 for a new peak. This is one of the challengers for #1 next week, but it might fall short. Obviously it has a week to play out and who knows what will happen, but there's a different challenger.
  • Dirty Heads break the record for largest climb in chart history (previously "The Glow" by: Big Data (feat. Kimbra) with 20 positions), as "End of the World" climbs a whopping 21 positions, going 30-9 for an easy new peak. This could be the #1 next week, as this is on fire right now. This ended up taking a 39 play debut for its first week, and carried more over the next few days. This could be the #1 next, or in two weeks time, and could be looking at a very lengthy run atop.
  • "Little Monster" climbs into the Top 10, as it goes 11-10 for a new peak. This one is looking like it could be a Top 5 grab for Royal Blood, with potential to grow more.
  • "Not Letting Go" and "Timebomb" climb into the Top 20 for new peaks, going 22-17 and 24-18 respectively. Both are looking like Top 10 hits with #1 sights, but both might not achieve that. With these climbing rapidly these past few weeks, they both should start slowing down, as there are less songs that are easy passes.
  • "Honey, I'm Good." takes a steep drop this week, dropping down 17-27. This one has officially burned on me, and could even be off the chart next week. Though, it does look like it could chill in the 35-40 range next week and drop the following. "Dancing on Quicksand" also drops 10 positions, going 21-31. That one will go recurrent next week.
  • "We Move Like the Ocean" reenters the Top 30 this week. This one has had a bumpy ride thus far and things aren't looking to smooth out anytime soon. If it could hold on for the coming weeks and breakout, this could have a lot of potential.
  • Florence + The Machine make their chart debut this week with "Ship to Wreck" coming in at #35. This might not be a chart burner, but this should be able to obtain a mid-20s peak and maybe even linger for awhile. The band saw chart action earlier this year with "What Kind of Man", which appeared on On the Rise a few times. This is Florence Welch's second charter, as she charted with Calvin Harris on "Sweet Nothing", which peaked at #6 back in 2013.
  • Modest Mouse finally chart with their follow-up to the 2 week #1 "Lampshades on Fire", as "The Ground Walks, With Time In A Box" finally makes its way onto the chart, after spending 4 weeks on On the Rise, at #37. This won't be able to have the same success as "Lampshades on Fire", but then again, I was wrong on every prediction I had for that one lol. So who knows.
  • CRUSIR pulls in the final spot with "Go For It" debuting at #40. Their previous charter "All Over" went recurrent last week, and this one is getting the CRUISR torch. This could actually perform similarly to "All Over", which had a very steady rise to its eventual #7 peak, but it likely won't be able to match the peak.
  • Well "Shots" gets... shot. It falls off the chart from #33, after being completely dropped the week prior. It wasn't looking to fall as hard as it did, but it just was in the wrong place (kinda similar to "Goodbye" by: Fancy). This one will more than likely not re-enter for a third time, but if it could gain Pop success, thenmaybe.
