Chart

James' Top 40 - March 18, 2015

Another new #1! 4 debuts!

Notes:

  • Add another false prediction to the list for this: "Lampshades on Fire" by: Modest Mouse takes the top spot this week for its 1st week atop, and good first entry for Modest Mouse. Despite me thinking this would peak at #4, this has beat the odds week after week. It's a close competition at the top, and it wouldn't surprise me if it loses it next week. This, "Billion", "Satellite", and maybe "I Want Out" seem to be the frontrunners for #1 next week.
  • "Satellite" by: Nickelback climbs 7-4 this week for a new peak. The song has been making serious gains its whole second run, and next week it could see a week atop the chart. If it does, Nickelback will be 5 for 6 on singles hitting the top ("Miss You" being the only one not to hit the top, which won't happen. It won't even appear on the chart lol). Despite me thinking this is one of Nickelback's weakest records to date, its chart runs sure are proving that wrong.
  • Young Guns keep moving forward. "I Want Out" climbs 8-6 for a new peak. Top 5 should be an easy grab for it and could make a run for the top. "Speaking In Tongues" makes a little 31-30 climb for a new peak. The song is starting to stall, so it might not be a major peaker, but a mid-20s peak is not too farfetched.
  • Two new entries come into the Top 10 this week. Red's "Darkest Part" climbs 12-9 this week for a new peak. The song has been gaining a lot of traction, and this could be a major player in the near future. It'll look to climb again next week and possibly approach the Top 5. "Honey, I'm Good." by: Andy Grammer takes the final spot in the Top 10, climbing 13-10 this week for a new peak. It's looking to replicate "Back Home"'s success (hit #1 for 2 weeks) from last year. This likely won't hit #1, but this could still climb, as it is starting to grow on radio and digitally (get that smash Andy!). This one was able to finally put up a positive update, as it was starting to peak. Maybe now it'll get a little revived.
  • "First" by: Cold War Kids climbs 15-11 this week for a new peak. This has a lot of momentum behind it right now, but next week could be a challenge as it is going to be hard to get into the Top 10. If "Shut Up and Dance" (5-8) puts up another negative week, it could see the Top 10, or if "Honey, I'm Good." puts up a weaker week.
  • Tove Lo climbs with "Talking Body" this week, going 14-13 for a new peak. Its run has been up and down quite a bit and its future is hard to predict. This one is starting to remind me of "Love Me Harder"'s run, where it ended up peaking at #6, but dropped like a stone after it hit it. This wouldn't drop like a stone, but it should at least see the Top 10 whether or not it'll be in the coming weeks or not. "Habits" is also likely looking at its last week on the chart. It resides at #39 and with a lot of debuts possibly coming in next week, it should be ending its reign. Next week will see its memoriam.
  • Two entries into the Top 20 also occur this week. Wash's "Can't Trust Thots" climbs 21-16 for a new peak. The song has been gaining steadily, but Top 10 is pretty much out of the picture as I already know this will burn on me soon. Imagine Dragons also enter with "I Bet My Life" going 24-18. It picks up only one play this week, but it was able to hop over everyone since it was at the right place at the right time again. Next week should be interesting.
  • AWOLNATION take their chart debut this week with "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)" coming in hot at #22 this week. This has just been on fire this week (and a little of last week), and next week could possibly see a Top 10 hop. This one could be flirting with #1 soon, as I am in love with it right now. AWOLNATION also sees 6 songs from their album Run on On the Rise. There should be at least one certain debut, but a few more might be able to make it in. Despite this being their chart debut, "Sail" and "Not Your Fault" both appeared on On the Rise in 2013.
  • As "Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)" is on fire, so is this one. "Flashed Junk Mind" by: Milky Chance comes in hot at #26. This one has gained a good 15 plays the past two weeks, but has been gaining steadily. This probably should have debuted before, but now is the best time for it. It has a easy ride to the Top 20 next week. Their debut single "Stolen Dance" peaked at #17, and this should easily surpass it. These two will probably be their only two chart hits from their debut album, as I don't like anything else.
  • Last week's debuts climb this week. "Heavy Is the Head" by: Zac Brown Band (feat. Chris Cornell) flies 36-29 this week, while "All Over" by: CRUISR climbs 35-33. Both should see good chart runs. My guess is that both will make the Top 20 in a few weeks time ("Heavy Is the Head" has the upperhand).
  • The last two debuts come at #36 and #38, from "Desire" by: Years & Years and "Man On A Wire" by: The Script respectively. "Desire" has been pretty hot and should see a really good chart run. It might be released to the US as their first radio single, so things will be looking good. Their other song, "King", appears on On the Rise again this week, and is looking at a debut very soon. "Man On A Wire" becomes The Script's second song from No Sound Without Silence to debut, and likely the only two. "Superheroes" peaked at an underwhelming #16 despite looking like a potential #1 when it first started. This one will look for a decent future, but outpeaking "Superheroes" will prove to be a challenge.
  • In Memoriam: As "Habits" will be receiving one next week, this week we say goodbye to "Resonance" by: LuvBug (feat. Talay Riley). The song started off with a shaky debut, debuting and peaking at #16 during its first run. It re-entered weeks later at the same position and slayyyyyed. It was in the Top 10 for nearly 6 months and hit #1 for a solid week (bad timing). After it fell, it was able to stay in the Top 10 for awhile before dropping like crazy when the chart expanded. I would have loved for this to stay on the chart for longer, but positions are getting limited and now there's so many songs that could be debuting (March has been great for music this year), it just had to fall. LuvBug will still be on the chart with "Revive (Say Something)" (10-15), but that's about to drop a lot too. Talay Riley will always have a successful career on here. Hopefully he releases a new single soon after he has had two Top 20 hits in the UK (this and "Dirty Love").
