Chart

James' Top 40 - October 7, 2015

Notes:

  • Until the Ribbon Breaks secure a 12th week atop the chart with "A Taste of Silver", giving the band 14 weeks in total in #1 runtime ("Pressure" got 2 weeks). As of right now, the chart has been very slow and pretty low movements, but some songs should start to shake things up soon. This can probably hold another week or two atop before some new challengers come in.
  • "Ain't No Stopping" charges into the Top 10, going 12-10. It only took 3 weeks to go Top 10, and this is looking for more. It has slowed down a bit, but it's not even close to being done. This will more than likely be the one to break the Top 4 apart and potentially be the next actual new #1.
  • "My Way" drops in positions for the first time in its entire 14 week chart run. It has steadily moved up over the course of time each week, without even staying at one position. This actually had a shot at staying in the Top 10, but the songs above it weren't looking to drop while "Ain't No Stopping" was a for sure Top 10 grab. Next week it could look to rebound back in the Top 10.
  • David Cook just keeps on trucking along as "Criminals" puts up another big week as it climbs 24-17 into the Top 20 for a new peak. This has been defying its odds with each week and this might be a big contender in the long run. Its projections are Top 10 now and still with room to grow.
  • "Moments" takes a nice second week climb as it goes 32-26 for a new peak. This should be a Top 10 contender and potentially Tove Lo's first Top 5 hit since "Habits". #7 is the highest mark that she has had since "Habits" was a 13 week #1, which "Talking Body" (#29) set. She's had 5 songs chart since, but no cigar.
  • "Hotline Bling" finally breaks from its #31 peak, as it goes 31-28 for a new peak. This had its projections adjusted down, but it does have a shot at reflourishing.
  • Carly Rae Jepsen scores the top debut as "Run Away With Me" finally debuts, as it starts its run off at #37. It spent 6 weeks on On the Rise. Right now projections are low considering it spent quite awhile on On the Rise, but with a few solid weeks, it could adjust into a big hit.
  • This week marks the third week straight that a song has re-entered the chart. Years & Years take a surprise re-entry at #40 with "Desire". The reason that this is somewhat surprising as this had a decent run, peaking at #17 in 15 weeks, quite a long run for a song that didn't peak necessarily high and for a song to re-enter on. I charted "Desire" while "King" flopped in the US, and I was actually expecting to be turned onto it after "Desire" finished its run here, but that did not happen. "King" might find its day, but I guess I'm going to beat to my own drum for them as I do with some artists (ex. Until the Ribbon Breaks). This doesn't have a full prediction yet, but this does have the slight odds to beat its #17 peak, but it also has the slight odds to be a one-off.
  • Starting in the next couple weeks, album tracks might start to leak in more onto the chart as some artists stopped releasing singles from their albums abruptly, or haven't done so at all. Until the Ribbon Breaks has already seen this kind of action, and they'll probably get two more songs on the chart soon once "Perspective" (28-30) and "Pressure" (17-20) fall off. They do have the potential to carry 5 songs on the chart, if only for a week or two, soon. Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker have "Damini" on top of On the Rise this week, even though that songs is from 2012 (it is on their upcoming US LP for what it's worth). Mat Kearney, Big Data, Tame Impala and Ben Rector should see some action since they aren't releasing radio singles from their albums anymore (well Ben is independent and doesn't anyways). I also might make my own singles for Andy Grammer, Imagine Dragons and WALK THE MOON since I don't really care for their current singles (though Andy has a shot with "Good To Be Alive (Hallelujah)").
