James' Top 40 - October 14, 2015

In Memoriam: I gather you all here today to bow our heads and pray for a fallen one. Our fourth memoriam is now in service.

*cue Timbaland's backing vocals on "Cry Me A River"*

This week, we see a drop off the chart for "Shut Up and Dance". This little guy had some legs, he didn't skip leg day. Debuting at the #10 spot all the way back on September 12, 2014, it took 57 weeks for this to fall off. It kept its Top 10 run going from its debut, along with 2 weeks at #1, for 44 weeks, one of the largest Top 10 runs in chart history. It stayed on for an additional 13, but didn't have the biggest success. It didn't get dropped like a rock and fall to recurrency, but it did live it up for its last 13. Only the past few weeks did it take a slight beating, but not every day is perfect day. This one will be greatly missed and will forever live in our hearts.

*the lowering of the coffin*

Chart time!

Notes:

  • "A Taste of Silver" pushes its 13th week atop the chart this week. It's not looking to fall down anytime soon, so this might take an even longer reign and put itself further into the my history books. This ties "Habits" with the longest reign in the Pulse days, both with 13 weeks on top.
  • "My Way" re-enters the Top 10, moving 11-10, to regain its #10 peak. This isn't necessarily slowing down, but it's not moving anymore points up. This might be able to have some luck on its side and move up again next week. The Top 10 is starting to become weaker, as the past month or so it has been relatively the same.
  • Selena Gomez has herself a solid week. "Good For You" moves into the Top 20, as it goes 21-17 for a new peak. This has had a very nice second run on the chart, and this might be able to move even higher. An upper teens peak is very possible. Selena also scores an On the Rise hit with "Sober" that has a shot at debuting next week, as it barely missed the chart this week. Next week Selena could see more songs on On the Rise as I download more of them. "Sober" is currently the only one I own of the album tracks, but I enjoyed almost the whole album.
  • Night Riots also score a Top 20 hit with "Oh My Heart" going 23-20 for a new peak. This is their second Top 20 hit following "Contagious". This has a shot at beating "Contagious"'s #15 peak, but not by much.
  • The top debut belongs to Andrew Watt, as he scores two surprise debuts this week. "Seeing Red" leads the pack as it debuts high at #24. I've been obsessed with his EP that came out on Friday, and this and "Ghost In My Head" in particular. This isn't the single, but it should have a good album track run, and probably will outpeak the single. The single is "Ghost In My Head", which scores a debut at #33. "Seeing Red" has Top 5 potential (and even room for #1), and "Ghost In My Head" could be a Top 10 with time.
  • "Run Away With Me" runs into the Top 30 as it blasts 37-30 this week for a new peak. This week was make or break for the song and it broke out in a big way. This really pushed projections up and has a high ceiling. Carly also has "My Type" at the top of On the Rise this week and is looking to debut that next week.
  • Until the Ribbon Breaks just keep putting hits on the chart. This week sees a re-entry for "Revolution Indifference" at #31, beating its past #36 peak from album release at the top of the year. I knew this was going to be the next single to chart, as it has popped up every now and then on the Re-Entry Watch, but its projections have gone way up lately. It didn't look like this would be able to replicate the success of their past charters at first, but now this looks like it could be another monstrous hit for them. Right now, its projections are Top 10 with much room to grow. They should see another song on the chart soon, and right now I am testing some songs out to see what I want to chart. This won one of the spots, now there are three others in the running for the next charter. Who knows though, they have potential to chart the whole album, which could be a first.
  • "Can't Feel My Face" takes a face plants off the chart, as it had a horrendous 17-25-36-off run to end its chart days. "Locked Away" is looking at even worse drop, as it dropped 22-39 (17 positions) this week, a new record, and is looking like an easy drop next week.
