Pour up another round – Sabrina Carpenter remains comfortably at Number 1 with her caffeinated hit single “Espresso”. She adds a fifth non-consecutive week atop my chart. Although she does maintain a solid enough lead, Dutch TikTok-star Roxy Dekker eyes the top position as well. She previously made a Number 1-debut back in April, earning the Dutch star her first ever chart-topper. It was bumped off the top after one week, but it remained in the Top 3 ever since its release – nine weeks to be exact. The single with the most weeks in the Top 3 of all time is Dua Lipa her 2017-smash “New Rules”, which spent seventeen weeks inside my Top 3 total. Maan and Goldband their “Stiekem” equaled the record last year.
Meanwhile, Hozier cracks the Top 3 for the first time in ten years as “Too Sweet” moves up to #3 this week. Artemas also continues to climb the Top 10, while both Tyla and Chappel Roan reach or return to their peaks. Just outside the Top 10, Dutch plasterers-turned-boy band finish just short with “Sex”, peaking at #11 so far. Dutch singer Zoë Tauran is also looking forward to a spot in the Top 10 with her cover of “Stiekem”. She peaks at #13 this week, but could be looking forward to her fourth Top 10-hit yet if she continues to soar. 2010s breakout star Mabel is also up for a comeback with her R&B-single “Vitamins”, which breaks the Top 20 for the first time. Mabel originally made her breakthrough with R&B-singles such as “Finders Keepers” – a big Number 1 on my list – but then switched to pop music to achieve mainstream success. After the letdown of About Last Night.., it is good to have Mabel back in the sound that suits her best.
Houdini seems to be popular lately. He was referenced on Roxy Dekker her Top 10-smash “Satisyfer” and Dua Lipa named her recent lead single after the magician. He is now the title of Eminem his big comeback rap song, which debuts at #27 as the highest new entry of this week. The song interpolates the 1982 song "Abracadabra" by Steve Miller Band and his own 2002-hit “Without Me”. It is a major comedy hip hop song, akin to his earlier songs. It has sparked controversy, just like his own old songs, but is an undeniable hit already. It earns him his twenty-fifth Top 40-hit to date and his first in four years. It is also his best-performing debut since his collab “River” with Ed Sheeran.
Fred Again.. makes a comeback after a bit of radio silence with “Places to Be”. In a few weeks, he will headline Bonaroo and now he collaborates with Anderson .Paak and Chika. It debuts at #34 this week. We last saw Anderson .Paak on my chart as a member of Silk Sonic alongside Bruno Mars, with who he scored two big Top 10-hits. Rita Ora also returns to my Top 40 with her newest single “Ask and You Shall Receive” at #37. She released her third studio album last year, which spawned a surprise Top 10-entry with her cover of Fatboy Slim’s “Praising You”. Success on the UK charts has been slow though, so let’s hope that her new song will fare better.
