Ain’t no holding Beyoncé! The new country star scores her eighth Number 1-hit

In 2022, Beyoncé made her long awaited comeback with Renaissance, a house-inspired album and the first of a trilogy of albums. Then, after starring in a Super Bowl LVIII commercial, she announced the double A-sided lead single for the second album of the trilogy: “Texas Hold ‘Em” / “16 Carriages”. It initially debuted at #25, only to now reach a massive peak at Number 1. It becomes Beyoncé’s eighth Number 1-hit to date. The previous lead single “Break My Soul” became a record-setting phenomenon on my personal chart and made her the first artist to score a Number 1 in three consecutive decades. The new “Texas Hold ‘Em” now joins Beyoncé her already impressive and ever-growing discography, including classics “Crazy in Love” and “Irreplaceable”. Beyoncé dethrones Dua Lipa her “Training Season”, which is bumped down to third place after one week atop the list.

Further down, Drake finally returns to the Top 10 after almost six long years. “Rich Baby Daddy” hits a new peak at #10 this week, earning the Canadian global star his milestone tenth Top 10-hit. It is the biggest hit off his latest album For All the Dogs. Over the past few years, Drake has failed to crack the upper half of my personal Top 40, so you’d easily forget just how many hits he has amassed since his chart debut in 2010. He scored five big Number 1s, including the multi-platinum “One Dance”. Drake is backed up by SZA and Sexxy Red on “Rich Baby Daddy”. Red is the true stand-out on this single, signing the already iconic hook. It earns Red her first ever Top 10-hit to date.

SZA also secures the highest debut of the week with “Saturn” at #14. It was surprise-released earlier this week. It precedes the upcoming deluxe edition of SOS, while the cover art calls back to her first big hit “Love Galore” from 2019. Her sophomore album SOS proved to be a major milestone success for SZA, spawning six major Top 10-hits on my personal chart, including two #2-songs with “Good Days” and “Kill Bill”. The latter has even been described as a career best. The new “Saturn” has an unearthly feeling and became a streaming hit upon release. Its ‘forest nymph’ vibes strongly reminds of “Good Days”. With its debut at #14 this week, SZA earns her nineteenth Top 40-entry to date.

Three other songs enter the chart this week. Selena Gomez debuts at #17 with “Love On”, a fun disco song about love. She recently started dating producer Benny Blanco. Her last song though, was a kiss-off anthem with “Single Soon”, which debuted at #6 but then quickly fell off the list. Pommelien Thijs earns her fifth Top 40-entry with “Het Beste Moet Nog Komen”. The Belgian pop star enjoyed major chart success last year, scoring three back-to-back hits, including the platinum “Erop of Eronder”. The last new entry is Karol G and Tiësto their second collaboration “Contigo” at #37. Their last team-up “Don’t Be Shy” in 2021 peaked at #30, but was a big success in the Netherlands.

To celebrate Beyoncé earning her eighth Number 1-hit, I have decided to rank her 10 biggest songs on my list. The two biggest Beyoncé singles are both collaborations, with her debut “Crazy in Love” with her husband Jay-Z coming out on top. It spent eight weeks atop the chart in 2003 and is certified triple platinum. Her second biggest hit is “Telephone” with Lady Gaga, which its popularity was boosted by the popular music video. Her third biggest song, and best-scoring solo record overall, is “Halo” taken from Sasha Fierce. It was a massive Number 1 and is certified double-platinum.
