The Netherlands’ Eurovision entry “Europapa” by Joost secures a massive Number 1-debut

Let’s come together! The Netherlands’ official Eurovision entry “Europapa” by Joost Klein enters atop the chart with the highest opening numbers of the year so far. The song is an unashamedly Dutch song, inspired by the hardcore genre that was dominantly popular in the 1990s. The song is also produced by Paul Elstak, an industry legend who defined the genre. The song also has an emotional note, as it also honors Joost his late father. Joost Klein previously scored a Top 20-hit on my personal chart with the hardcore hit “Friesenjung”, which rebounds to #15 this week. Joost Klein now earns his first Number 1 on my chart. It is the third ever Eurovision entry to peak at Number 1 – the other two being Gina G’s 1996-smash “Ooh Aah...Just a Little Bit” and Anouk’s acclaimed “Birds” from 2013.

American singer-songwriter Victoria Monét finally earns her flowers as “On My Mama” finally soars into the Top 10, reaching an all-time high at #4 this week. Throughout her career, Monét has written songs and albums for other high-profile artists, including her best friend Ariana Grande. Last year, she released her debut studio album Jaguar II, which was met with universal acclaim. She received seven nominations at this year’s Grammys, ultimately winning the Best New Artist Award. “On My Mama” has received a significant boost since the win, now leading to her first ever and long overdue Top 10-hit. With this momentum, it could reach even bigger heights next week.

Charli XCX brings all the nightclub vibes on her new single “Von Dutch” at #26. It is the lead single for her upcoming album Brat, which will be a full-blown club album according to Charli. It comes off the back of Charli’s most-successful era yet: Crash. The era spawned nine Top 40-entries and moved Charli back into the Top 10 for the first time in years. “Beg For You” with Rina Sawayama peaked at #5 and her collaborations with Tiësto and Caroline Polachek were certified. Her unexpected “2 Die 4” with Addison Rae was also a surprise Top 20-hit. Charli now fully returns with “Von Dutch”. It marks Charli her twenty-first Top 40-hit to date. The song is produced by Easyfun, the same man behind the certified smash “Speed Drive” for the Barbie film.

To celebrate Joost Klein his iconic Number 1-debut with his Eurovision entry, I have decided to rank the best-scoring Eurovision songs of all time on my personal chart. Australian 90s-singer Gina G ranks first with “Ooh Aah... Just a Little Bit”, the United Kingdom's entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996. It spent one week at Number 1 and is currently certified platinum. Closely behind is “Birds” by Anouk, the Dutch entry in 2013. The ballad managed to earn the Netherlands a spot in the final for the first time in nine years. In third place is “De Diepte” by S10, which marked the first fully Dutch entry at Eurovision in twelve years. Most of the other best-scoring singles include Dutch entries, but also an array of winners. Germany their “Satellite” by Lena is the best-scoring winning entry, ranking fourth overall. Joost his “Europapa” ranks fifteenth in the ranking following its Number 1-debut, expected to rise up the ranking quickly.
