BLØF and Boyzone fight head to head for this week’s Number 1; Spice Girls’ “Viva Forever” certified 2 x Platinum

BLØF and Boyzone continue to fight for the Number 1-position, resulting in a photo-finish race. Boyzone is the strongest act this week, celebrating a second week above the list with No Matter What. The song reached also Number 1 on the UK Singles Chart, and it is becoming the first and so far only Boyzone song to become popular and to have charted in the US. BLØF remains in the second position for a second consecutive week. Wat Zou Je Doen? Is becoming one of BLØF their biggest hits on the list.

Billie Piper steps into the Top 10 with Girlfriend. The British teen-singer has scored a hit single earlier this year with Because We Want To. The single spent one week above the list and scored over 65,000 points. The single served as the lead single of her debut album “Honey to the B” and marked her proper breakthrough in the United Kingdom. Girlfriend is the second single of the same album. The single topped the charts in the native UK, while it is finding minor success in other European countries. On this list however, Girlfriend promises to be another big hit. The single peaks at Number 8 this week.

Jennifer Paige slides into the Top 10 with Crush. Her single is already a massive hit in the United States, where it peaked at Number 3 and stayed for four consecutive weeks. Jennifer Paige her single was hugely aided by pop radio stations, who played the single frequently. Contract deals and live performances followed, and boom, Crush became a mega hit. Across the ocean, the hit finds success as well. The single is slowly climbing the charts. On this list, the single peaks at Number 9 this week. This marks Jennifer Paige her first entry in the Top 10 ever.

Meja scores the highest debut of the week. Meja is a is a Swedish composer, artist and singer. In 1993, Meja worked with the dance project Legacy of Sound, with whom she scored a couple of hits. Meja then pursued a solo career with “Seven Sisters” being her second studio album. The Swedish singer is also a nationwide success in her native country, but Meja is currently also climbing the worldwide charts with All ‘Bout the Money. The song scores a high entry on this list, debuting at Number 26.

Three singles are certified Gold this week. One-time-act Stardust receive a Gold Certification for Music Sounds Better With You. The single was produced by one member of Daft Punk, who are known for revolutionizing dance pop. Ilse DeLange receives a Gold Certification for her first hit I’m Not So Tough. The single became the Dutch singer-songwriter’s breakthrough on this list and aided the success of the subsequent album “World of Hurt”. Aerosmith receives a Gold Certification for I Don't Want To Miss A Thing. The single served as the theme song of the hit film “Armageddon”. As of this week, all three songs have amassed over 40,000 points.

Pras Michel receives a Platinum Certification for his breakthrough hit Ghetto Supastar (That Is What You Are). The single is Pras Michel his first proper hit as a soloist, following his successful career with the Fugees. With the group, he scored the massive chart-topper Killing Me Softly. Pras Michel now ventures out on his own, scoring his first ever solo hit. As of this week, the song has amassed over 65,000 points. Additionally, Ghetto Supastar is also the breakthrough of feature artists Mýa and Ol' Dirty Bastard.

Des’ree receives a Platinum Certification for Life. The single has been seen as a comeback single for the British singer, as this was her first big hit since 1995. The feel-good single climbed to Number 2, kept off the top by The Boy Is Mine by Brandy and Monica, and Because We Want To by Billie Piper. As of this week, the single has amassed over 65,000 points. The single is her best-scoring single of all time.

The Spice Girls receive a 2 x Platinum Certification for their Number 1-hit Viva Forever. The hit single was the girls’ first single to be released without Geri Halliwell. The beloved Ginger Spice does provide vocals on the song, but she did not promote the hit. Viva Forever became the Spice Girls their ninth consecutive chart-topper on this list and went on to spend seven weeks above the list. It was released as the last single of the sophomore album “Spiceworld”. The song has been critically acclaimed, with some calling it the Spice Girls’ best single to date, As of this week, the single has amassed over 90,000 points. This continues the Spice Girls their record of having at least every single certified 2 x Platinum.
