Brandy and Monica climb to their first ever Number 1-hit with The Boy Is Mine. The song is the first duet by two female artists to crown the list. For both Brandy and Monica is this single their first chart-topper. The song was initially made for Brandy alone and would be the lead single of her upcoming album “Never Say Never”, but her producers decided the song would work better as a duet with Monica. The song was partially inspired by The Girl Is Mine, a 1982 duet by Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. Internationally, the single is a huge success. The Boy Is Mine reached Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the United States, whilst reaching the Top 10 in many European countries.
Acda en de Munnik step into the Top 10 with Niet of Nooit Geweest. As the contemporary-music in the Netherlands becomes more and more successful due to the likes of BLØF, other Dutch acts with the similar music style become popular. Acda en De Munnik is the new addition to the adult contemporary-genre, scoring their first Top 10-hit this week. After climbing the list for three weeks, the single finally lands at Number 10. Acda en de Munnik eye to chart even higher, possibly landing the Top 5 next week.
Producer Mousse T., pop duo Hot 'n' Juicy and singer Inaya Day score the highest debut of the week. The three acts collaborate on the house track Horny ’98 which is slowly becoming an international hit. Most of the success is due to South Park, as the popular tv-show uses the song on the soundtrack “Chef Aid: The South Park Album”. Horny ’98 already debuted on the Official UK Charts at Number 2, whilst the single is climbing other European charts rapidly. On this list, Horny ’98 debuts at Number 22 this week.
Madonna receives a Platinum Certification for Frozen. The single became Madonna’s comeback single and marked a new era for the American pop legend. On this list, the single peaked at Number 2 behind My Heart Will Go On by Céline Dion. As of this week, the song has amassed over 65,000 points. This is Madonna her first Platinum certification on this list, whilst it is also her highest-scoring single to date.
