Britney Spears scores her second Number 1-hit with “Sometimes”; the Backstreet Boys achieve 3 x Platinum Status

Britney Spears climbs to the Number 1-position with Sometimes, achieving her second chart-topper on this list. Britney Spears previously held the crown with …Baby One More Time which went on to become the biggest hit of the year. Britney Spears has become a huge phenomenon over the past few months, landing worldwide fame and becoming the latest teen-sensation. Her debut album “…Baby One More Time” is also a huge seller. Britney Spears her Sometimes dethrones the Backstreet Boys and continues to face competition from Enrique Iglesias.

Madonna steps into the Top 10 with Beautiful Stranger. The American pop icon was featured on the Austin Powers soundtrack “The Spy Who Shagged Me”, which also spawned the singles American Woman by Lenny Kravitz and Word Up by ex-Spice Girl Melanie B. Madonna scored some big hits last year, including the Number 2-hits Frozen and Ray of Light. The additional album “Ray of Light” was also a successful album. This week, Beautiful Stranger becomes Miss Madonna’s fifth Top 10-hit.

Jennifer Lopez is a woman of many qualities. She started as a background dancer for New Kids on the Block, went on to become a professional dancer and later ventured into acting. Some of her films include “Lost in the Wild” and “My Family”. Jennifer Lopez then broke through with her role as Selena in the biopic film of the same name. More high-profile films followed, leading to a music contract. If You Had My Love is Jennifer Lopez her debut single and launches her music career worldwide. The single topped the Billboard Hot 100. On this list, the single finally cracks the Top 10, peaking at Number 10 exactly.

Tarzan is one of the most successful films of this year. Because of the huge box office numbers, the subsequent soundtrack was a big hit. Phil Collins leads most of the songs, now scoring the highest debut of the week with You'll Be in My Heart taken from the soundtrack. Phil Collins has entered the list before with You Can’t Hurry Love, but the single did not become a big hit. Phil Collins his newest entry You'll Be in My Heart now becomes the singer his highest-peaking entry to date. The song debuts at Number 19.

Although the Backstreet Boys lose their Number 1-position this week, the boy group receives a 3 x Platinum Certification. Their single I Want It That Way became a sensational chart-topper and went on the spend eight consecutive weeks above the charts. Internationally, the song was also a big success, most notably topping the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Charts. The single has amassed over 100,000 points. The Backstreet Boys’ I Want It That Way is now the group’s best-scoring single to date. The song is the third-best-scoring single by a boy group ever, only behind Back For Good by Take That and No Matter What by Boyzone.
