The Backstreet Boys hold at Number 1, facing very strong competition from Enrique Iglesias

The Backstreet Boys their position above the list weakens, facing strong competition from the Wamdue Project, Britney Spears and, most importantly, Enrique Iglesias. Nonetheless, the Backstreet Boys earn an eighth week at Number 1 with their hit single I Want It That Way. The single is a big international seller, most notably topping the Billboard Hot 100 and the Official UK Charts. The Backstreet Boys receive a 2 x Platinum Certification for their Number 1-hit this week, making I Want It That Way their best-scoring single on this list. The single has amassed over 90,000 points.

Will Smith steps into the Top 10 with Wild Wild West. The single serves as the newest release from his second album “Willenium”. His previous album was a huge success, spawning the hit singles Men In Black and Miami. His newest single marks Will Smith his fourth song to achieve a Top 10-position. This makes Will Smith one of the most successful actors-turned-singers of all time. This week, Wild Wild West peaks at Number 10. The song features Dru Hill, Kool Mo Dee, for whom the single is their first entrance in the Top 10.

With the group (un)officially on a hiatus, all Spice Girls are focusing on solo careers. Melanie B was eager to begin and launched her first single in late 1998 with I Want You Back. Quickly, Melanie C followed and scored a Number 1-hit with Bryan Adams on When You’re Gone. As of recent, Geri Halliwell debuted above the list with the highly anticipated Look at Me. The only two Spice Girls left to not have released solo material yet are Emma Bunton and Victoria Adams, now Beckham as she married David Beckham earlier this month.

Melanie B now makes her highly anticipated return with Word Up. The bouncy single is taken from the Austin Powers film-soundtrack “The Spy Who Shagged Me”, which previously saw the hit Beautiful Stranger by Madonna and American Woman by Lenny Kravitz. The song is the first single from Melanie B to be truly independent, as her previous I Want You Back featured Missy Elliott. Scary Spice is off to a strong start, debuting at Number 13 this week. If Melanie B her hit were to pick up, she could become the third ex-Spice Girl to score a Number 1-hit.
