Céline Dion debuts at Number 1 with “Titanic”-soundtrack, aided by huge opening numbers

Céline Dion has already left an enormous legacy on this list. In March 1995 the French-Canadian singer scored her first Number 1-hit, of which there later would be five. The glorious debut was Think Twice. The single spent five weeks above the list, received a 2 x Platinum-certification and amassed over 130,000 points. The ballad still holds up as one of the best-scoring singles of all time. More successes followed, including the Number 1-hits Because You Loved Me and It’s All Coming Back To Me Now. Her album “Falling Into You” spawned highly successful sales and her newest album “Let’s Talk About Love” is sure to match that success. In total, Céline Dion garnered over 500,000 points, making her one of the most successful acts of all time.

Now it is time to add another feat to her incredible lists of successes, My Heart Will Go On is Céline Dion her first ever single to debut above the list. Additionally, the song is her eight Top 10-hit. The single serves as the main theme of the blockbuster-film “Titanic”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. The film is a very big success and smashing cinema records across the world. Aided by the film’s success, Céline Dion opens at Number 1 with My Heart Will Go On this week. The songstress dethrones Janet Jackson from the top spot and fights off competition from Guus Meeuwis & Vagant.

Jewel scores her first Top 10-entry with Foolish Games. Jewel is an American singer-songwriter who is currently climbing the charts worldwide. The song is taken from her debut album “Pieces of You”, whilst also being used for the “Batman & Robin”-soundtrack. The single is becoming a solid hit in the Netherlands, so far heaving peaked at Number 9 in the Dutch Top 40. On this list, Jewel peaks at Number 9 this week.

Natalie Imbruglia celebrates a Platinum Certification for Torn. As of this week, the single has amassed over 65,000 points. The song is becoming an international hit, topping the charts in multiple countries. Critics have noted that Torn is one of the most iconic singles to have been released in the 90s. On this list, Natalie Imbruglia spent two weeks above the list with the hit single.

Although Janet Jackson loses her crown position this week, her Number 1-single Together Again does have reason to celebrate. As of this week, the single enjoys a Gold Status. The song became Janet Jackson her biggest hit on this list, securing two above the list and fighting off intense competition from the likes of the Spice Girls and Robbie Williams. As of this week, the lovely pop-dance song has amassed over 40,000 points.
